Fun For Children!

At Homework Hub our aim is to create a ‘home from home’ environment where the team will strive to help each child to reach their full potential educationally, physically, socially and emotionally.

We offer a diverse range of physical and creative activities where children are engaged in hands on learning while socialising with other children. It is our vision that each child will learn new skills and develop existing ones, where they will engage in new experiences and most importantly have fun!

The Homework Club is a support program offered to students in grades 4-12 who require academic support and would benefit from one-on-one homework mentoring with a caring volunteer. The Homework Club meets for one hour per week from October through June and is open to all students free of charge. This service is beneficial to students who are economically disadvantaged, stressed due to family issues or academic challenges.

Homework Club tutors are community volunteers, including retired teachers and high school or post-secondary students. The Homework Club provides a great opportunity for community members to become role models and leaders as they learn communication, leadership, mentorship, conflict resolution, time management and teamwork skills.

Registration opens each fall and goes through until the end of the school year in June. Click here for the Registration Form .

To learn more or to register your child/teen, please contact: 416-638-7800 x 6234.  The Homework club is a FREE program.

Leon County offering free virtual tutoring program to kindergarteners through 8th graders

Leon county administrator vince long called the program a "safe virtual environment.".

The Leon County public library system will begin offering a free virtual after-school tutoring program.

The program, called Homework Hub, pairs children as young as kindergarten through to 8th grade one-on-one with academic tutors via Zoom, three days per week. The program currently has about 100 slots available, with room to grow as more volunteers join, Leon County spokesman Matt Cavell said.

Volunteer tutors for the program will come from Leon County's Volunteer network who will work with the library's staff, according to a press release.

"Virtual education can play an important part in helping our children realize their full potential," Leon County Commission Chairman Rick Minor said in a statement.

“The pandemic created new challenges for our children and schools, but Homework Hub will help bridge gaps by providing students accessible homework support in an environment focused on encouragement and success.”

Leon County Administrator Vince Long called the program a "safe virtual environment" to help students learn during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program will help kids tackle subjects such as English, math, social studies and sicence. The program offers 30-minute or hour-long online tutoring sessions Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to a press release.

To participate in the program, families will need access to a desktop or laptop computer with Internet capabilities, video and audio. Program coordinators say kids may use smartphones, iPads, and Android tablets but may experience limited access to Zoom.

Children also must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission form to participate, found at www.LeonCountyLibrary.org/HomeworkHub .

Families may submit these forms online by emailing [email protected] , or they may return them to any nearest public library location. Staff will then reach back out to schedule a tutoring appointment, according to the program's announcement.

VolunteerLEON is recruiting those who can set aside time for at least one tutoring session per week during each semester, the release said. Visit  volunteer.VolunteerLeon.org to sign up.

Homework Hub provides free tutoring for Leon County students

homework hub jfcs

TALLAHASSEE FLA. (WTXL) — Homework Hub is providing free tutoring for students in Leon County and giving parents more options for their kids.

Cindy Baisden is one of the tutors at Homework Hub.

"Tutoring can be a very costly endeavor," said Cindy Baisden.

"I know the needs in the community. I know how much students need that support and guidance," said Baisden.

After teaching in Leon County schools for more than 25 years, Baidsen retired in 2021 during the pandemic.

Baisden told ABC 27 that this resource takes a burden off of some parents.

Homework Hub is offered through the Leon County Public Library System.

It pairs students in kindergarten through eighth grade with an academic tutor in- person or virtually. High school students can also receive tutoring.

"This is what we're here to do," said Library Services Coordinator John Alden Field.

He said the idea is not extra hours of school but a program that builds relationships.

"This is supposed to be more of a relaxed working on your homework at home environment with just a buddy to help you out with it," said Field.

Field said so far Homework Hub has helped more than 100 students in Leon County, fulfilling that mission.

"Anytime that they can share with you their successes and experiences they've had that makes you feel real good inside," said Baisden.

For parents interested in signing their child up they need to fill out an online form providing their child's name, age, grade and school.

Homework Hub also needs more tutor-volunteers.

They're hoping to start in-person sessions soon but need more people to commit.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, head to Leon County Volunteer Services .
