The Department of Neurodegenerative Disease is one of the foremost international centres for the study of dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. The research portfolio encompasses Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia with Lewy bodies.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to participate in a research programme dedicated to the detailed clinical, neuropsychological, and MRI characterisation of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). The programme aims to understand the mechanisms of LBD and provide evidence for future clinical trials in this common and debilitating condition.
You will assist with managing data collected from participants in this project, including image analysis. Your duties will include helping coordinate the study, participant screening and recruitment, neuropsychological testing of people with LBD, data curation, and image analysis focusing on structural, diffusion tensor imaging, resting state functional MRI, and quantitative MRI scans.
The role is available from October 2024 and funded by Wellcome for one year in the first instance.

We expect to hold interviews on Tuesday 24 September 2024.
You will hold an Honours degree (minimum 2:1) in Psychology or Neuroscience (or a related discipline) combined with knowledge of medical statistics, and data processing and analysis.
Additionally, you will have experience conducting neuropsychological assessments in adult populations, outstanding written and oral communication skills, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work alongside people from different cultures and backgrounds.
This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

Starting salary offered between £37,332 - £37,982 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Neurology Research Nurse
The post holder will be mentored by the senior research nurse and will be a full member of the research team, which includes members of multiple disciplines, including neurology, primary care and psychology. Through a well-designed induction programme, support and training, you will have the opportunity to develop as an independent practitioner working with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
We are a leading clinical centre for movement disorders research aiming to improve the quality of life of patients with Parkinson’s disease and other disorders. Our PD-Care project is funded by the NIHR with the purpose to develop and test a new supported self-management tool for patients with Parkinson’s disease in the community.
The tool has been developed and its feasibility been tested, and we are looking for an additional team member to support people with Parkinson’s disease in using this tool. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with or supporting adults with complex needs. Experience working as a health or social care professional, care navigator or support worker in the NHS, adult social care or in the voluntary sector would be an advantage. You will need have excellent time management and documentation skills for arranging and recording appointments during the specified trial period

- Completed/working towards teaching qualification
- Completed/working towards degree in the speciality or related field
- Significant post registration experience
- Experience of formal/ informal teaching of patients and staff
- Experience in delivering evidence based practice
- Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
- Experience of acting as a patient advocate
- Experience in neurology
- Clinical research experience
- Experience working as a preceptor/facilitator
- Experience of phlebotomy and cannulation

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Band 6 nurse in the Neurology Research Team at QEHB, either as a permanent post or would consider a 12-month internal secondment.
The successful candidate will need to be an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated adult nurse who takes pride and ownership in delivering high quality patient care. Highly motivated with demonstrable organisational and interpersonal skills and a flexible working approach are essential key qualities. It would be desirable for the ideal candidate to have some Neurology or Research knowledge/experience, although all research specific training will be provided with a bespoke and comprehensive professional development plan to help you progress your career within this busy Trust.
The Neuro research team currently supports an exciting range of commercial, academic, observational as well as complex interventional studies. This role provides regular contact with patients and carers/relatives as well as the wider MDT. We offer the opportunity to learn about the practicalities of approaching patients for participation in clinical research studies, managing research participants' care pathways within the research programme in collaboration with their clinical team and offers personal development and job satisfaction.

- *Registered level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC register
- *Health care management / leadership qualification.
- *Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- *Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
- *Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
- *Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
