The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

11 13 19 4 26 20 AM

Presented by EA Game Changers

Getting into university is one thing; excelling in university is quite another. For most people, the joys of university lie in balancing work with pleasure. A little studying here, a little partying there, leading to an overall well-rounded university experience.

This guide is not for the casual university student. This guide will walk you through how to throw yourself completely into your education in order to achieve the best grades (and the best future) possible. Throw away your juice kegs and break out those textbooks because school is all you’re going to know for the next three terms.

For a breakdown on scholarships and applying to university, see our guide, Discover University: Applying to University !

Class Selections

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Of course, it all starts with enrolling and selecting your degree and classes. No matter which degree you pursue, you’ll have to select up to 4 classes per term. Classes change every term so you’ll see new ones available every time you select your classes at the start of term. You can’t change which classes you’ll be taking for your degree; you can only choose the number of classes.

However, Sims have the option of enrolling in 1 elective each term. Electives are fun classes that focus on skills outside of your degree and you will be able to select which elective your Sim will take that term. There are all kinds of electives that span a wide variety of skills. Electives are fully integrated across all packs, so depending on which add-on content you have installed, you may see different electives for skills from different packs.

Electives are optional; your Sim doesn’t need to take any electives at all, but if they do choose to take an elective, they can only take up to 3 other classes. Sims are limited to 4 classes per term in total, so either 4 classes, or 3 classes and 1 elective.

Our recommendation? Take 3 classes and 1 elective every term for maximum academic success. Electives still count as credits towards your degree so taking an elective doesn’t hurt your progress at all, plus your Sim will graduate with a few extra skills thanks to the electives they took.

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

One term last 5 working days. There is no way to shorten or lengthen a term. They are fixed periods. Sims can begin a new term anytime during the week, but weekends don’t count as term days. If your Sim starts a new term on a Friday, the term won’t end until Thursday the following week. Starting a new term in the middle of the week can be a good academic strategy for dedicated students because it will give them the weekend to catch up on homework and final assignments.

How many terms your Sim needs to complete in order to graduate is entirely dependent on how many classes they decide to take per term. A Sim needs to earn 12 credits in order to graduate.

Here is the breakdown of how many terms your Sim will need to complete based upon their classes:

  • 4 classes per term = 3 terms (15 working days)
  • 3 classes per term = 4 terms (20 working days)
  • 2 classes per term = 6 terms (30 working days)
  • 1 class per term = 12 terms (60 working days)

These calculations are based on the assumption that your Sim completes the same number of classes every term. It is possible to take a different number of classes each term (4 classes one term, 2 the next term, for example), in which case the number of terms needed to graduate will vary.

Even if a Sim only takes 3 terms to graduate, they will still spend the majority of their young adult life in university; however, unlike past Sims games, your Sims are not trapped on campus with no way to work or live a life outside of university. Sims can live wherever they want, have a job, and raise a family while going to school, so this balances things out. If the length of university is not ideal for your play style, we recommend turning aging off in the game options while your Sim is in university. That way, they don’t lose any time to climb a career ladder or pursue other life goals.

Of course, you will want to be taking 4 classes every term for maximum efficiency. Sims who don’t mind sacrificing their social life and plan to devote all their time to their studies should take a full course load every term.

Attending Classes

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

It’s important to actually attend class in order to get the most out of your university education. Missing class will hurt your grades. Sims in the area will autonomously try to get to class a little early. Sims who’ve arrived to class early will wait outside the building with the other early bird students. This can be a good time to get some last minute homework finished or to quickly finish the rest of that coffee and snack you purchased to-go at the cafe vendor.

While your Sim is inside the classroom rabbithole, they will have various options available to them by clicking on their portrait, much like the different work options for inactive careers. Click the class icon on the Sim’s portrait to see the various actions they can take in class. Sims can Actively Listen, Take Notes, Sleep in Class, or Chat with Friends. To get the most out of every class, make sure your Sim is taking notes or actively listening. I’m sure we don’t need to tell you that sleeping in class and chatting with friends are not good ways to improve your grades.

If you’re taking a full course load, it’s likely that your Sim will have more than one class in a day, or even back to back classes. Make sure to check the career panel often to keep track of your class schedule so you can budget your time for homework, finals, and self-care effectively.

Ideally, you will want your Sim to attend every single class with all of their homework completed and taking an active role in the class while they are there. This will ensure your Sim gets the most out of their classes and, in turn, gets the best grades at the end of term.

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Every course your Sim takes has homework due before every class. When your Sim enrolls in university, they are automatically given a homework notebook in their personal inventory. Sims can complete homework for all their classes using this notebook. Homework takes some time to complete, but Sims with high enough Research & Debate skill complete homework faster.

Sims who stay on top of their homework and pay attention in class will get more out of attending classes and it will have a positive impact on their final grade. Always complete homework before every class and actively pay attention in class for maximum academic success.

In addition to homework that must be completed on a regular basis throughout the term, each class also has a final. Finals are very important and worth a large chunk of your grade. Skipping out on your finals will have a big negative impact on your final grade, so make sure you complete all of them.

Each class will have different requirements for its final. Some classes will require your Sim to write a term paper. Others have final exams and presentations. Look at your class schedule in the career panel to see what’s required of each class.

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Exams take place during the last class of the term. If your Sim has done all their homework and attended all their classes, they’re likely to do well on their exam, but Sims can also study for a class using a course book purchased from the university kiosk, a computer, or research station to boost their chances of doing well on their exam.

Don’t miss your final exam! Failing to write the exam results in a big fat zero and will seriously hurt your final grade!

PSST! You can also cheat on your exam by selecting the option on your Sim’s portrait while they’re in the exam… but you would never do that… would you? Getting caught has serious consequences.

Term Papers

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Term papers can be written on the computer under the University menu option. A Sim can write and submit a term paper for a class at any point during the term, so dedicated Sims might want to get these out of the way early.

Term papers take a long time to complete, but Sims with high enough Research & Debate skill complete term papers faster. The first draft of a term paper is usually poor quality. Your Sim can submit poor quality term papers, but f they want the best grade, they should spend some time editing their paper before they submit it.

Term papers can be edited until they are outstanding quality. You’ll receive a notification telling you that your term paper won’t benefit from any further editing once your Sim has increased its quality to outstanding. Scrolling over the term paper option in the computer’s menu will tell you the quality of the term paper.

When your Sim is satisfied with the quality of their paper, they can submit it using the computer.

PSST! You can also plagiarize your term papers by selecting the plagiarize option on the computer… but you would never do that… would you? Getting caught has serious consequences.

Presentations

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Your Sim will receive a presentation board in their personal inventory at the start of term for any classes that have a presentation requirement as their final. Presentations function similar to term papers; your Sim will need to compile all of their material on the board, then refine the presentation board until it’s suitable to present in class.

To start, drag the presentation board out of your Sim’s inventory and into the world somewhere, then choose the Capture Information option on the board. Your Sim will spend some time compiling all their material for their presentation onto the board. When they’ve finished, they will have a poor quality presentation board. You can see the board’s quality by hovering over it.

Sims can improve the quality of their presentation by refining and organizing it, and asking other Sims for feedback on their presentation. They can also practice their presentation. Practicing presentations builds the Charisma skill. Once the board cannot be improved any further, you will receive a notification informing you that your Sim’s presentation board looks great and that continuing to fiddle with it won’t improve it any more.

When your Sim is satisfied with the quality of their presentation, they can go to class with the presentation board in their inventory and present it. Presentations do not take place during regular classes; your Sim must click on the class rabbithole and select the presentation option. Presentations can only be given during the day. Your Sim won’t be able to present in the middle of the night.

Final Grades & Starting a New Term

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

If your Sim has done all their homework, attended every class as an active participant, and completed all their finals with outstanding quality, they should have no trouble getting an A+ grade in every class. However, perfect grades don’t come easy. You’ll find that your Sim has little to no time for extracurricular activities, organizations, or socialising when they are taking 4 classes and trying to achieve an A+ grade in every single one of them. University is definitely a rewarding challenge in The Sims 4 , just like in the real world.

Since grades aren’t given out until the end of term, it’s up to your Sim to take a proactive approach to finding out how they’re doing in their classes. They can visit their professors during their office hours or email them on the computer to get an idea of how they’re performing in their classes and how they can improve.

Once all coursework has been submitted, your Sim will be free to enjoy themselves (for once) while their final grades are being processed. Once the final grades are in, you’ll receive a popup with all your final grades for each class, as well as your overall GPA.

From there, you can choose to enroll in another term right away, or take some time off before starting a new term. If your Sim has any scholarships, they must enroll in a new term immediately or they will lose their scholarships. Tuition costs for the new term will be handled at this point as well. Sims can pay with household funds or take out a loan to pay any tuition costs for the new term that scholarships don’t cover.

Your Sim will also be given the opportunity to make different housing arrangements at the start of each new term. They can choose to stay wherever they are currently living, or move somewhere else. This change does not happen right away. Your Sim will have about a day left in their old residence, which gives them an opportunity to pack up any personal items they may have purchased for their living space. A small “Packing Up” event will occur a couple hours before the move to remind your Sim to gather up their things, too.

As long as your Sim continues on the path to success they started in their first term, all their future terms are bound to result in perfect A+ grades across the board. Keep doing that homework, working on those finals, and paying attention in class!

To apply for university, have your Sim use a computer and select "University", then click "Apply to Universities". Your Sim will then apply for a place at both University of Britechester and the Foxbury Institute.

Your Sim will get an acceptance letter after one or two in-game days. This letter will inform you of which course places your Sim can take up. Your application status can also be checked via the computer.

Once you've had confirmation of a university place, you can enrol in the university of your choice via the computer, mailbox, or your cell/mobile phone.

Since there are two universities, your Sim will want to go to the right university for their skills and aspirations. Distinguished degrees get you an even bigger boost to your Sim's career. The University of Britechester tends to offer distinguished degrees for arts and humanities subjects, while the Foxbury Institute offers distinguished degrees for the sciences.

To gain acceptance into distinguished degrees, your Sim will need to have high skills levels related to the distinguished degree course. For example, acceptance into the distinguished Art History degree at the University of Britechester is more likely if your Sim has higher charisma, painting, and writing skills.

Below are two tables that show what courses the universities offer, as well as the organisations that can be found within each one.

The Sims 4 university guide

By sending your Sim to university, you'll likely want them to achieve the highest grades and get a good degree. Degrees can help give your Sim a big boost in the career of their choice. The rest of this guide will be focused on what you need to do to get good grades.

This might seem like a rather arbitrary decision to make, but choosing whether or not to live with other Sims on campus or living on your Sim's own can make all the difference between graduating with distinction or flunking their class entirely.

Living on their own is a good option for your Sims. They won't be distracted by messy roommates, and will have access to everything at any time they want. There's also the fact that you won't need to waste time travelling to the University Commons to get food, and the fact you can designate your Sim's home with the Study Spot lot trait to help your Sims do better in class. It's not impossible for your Sims to ace their tests in shared accommodation, but it is significantly harder to juggle a social life and intense studying.

However, there are some advantages to living on campus. You can arrive to class early, ensuring that a late mark doesn't affect your grade. Living on campus is particularly useful if you're trying to get the Academic aspirations, as being on campus to attend guest lectures and using the research archive machine can help greatly.

A decent compromise might be to put your Sims into smaller residential units for the two universities: namely Maritime Manor for Foxbury Institute or Darkwing House for the University of Britechester. This option is sort of the best of both worlds. You'll have a computer and a kitchen on-site, as well as a reduced likelihood of sharing space with a messy Sim. But the main advantage is that you're still on campus, so you  should be able to attend class early.

As Jack Torrance in The Shining wrote repeatedly on his typewriter: all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Working your Sims too hard can burn them out, so you need to strike a good balance of courses and other activities.

For every semester, your Sim has the option to take a maximum of four classes. They can either take up to four core classes, or a mixture of up to three core classes and an elective. You can choose to take fewer classes in a semester, but your Sim will stay in university for a longer time before graduating.

If you want to strike a good balance between classes , I highly recommending sticking to two core classes and a single elective: a total of three classes per semester. However, this will take 20 in-game days, or four whole terms - your Sim's entire young adulthood period - to complete. You can graduate as an adult, or you can use the relevant  The Sims 4 cheats , or the Potion of Youth aspiration reward to slow down the ageing process until you graduate.

All these classes count towards your Sim's degree, but electives give your Sim a chance to learn a skill that's unrelated to the subject of their degree.

Put simply, your Sim must attend every single class to get straight A's. Your Sim must also be punctual, arriving on time for every class. One of the few advantages to living on campus is that Sims can get to class early. They'll stand outside the lecture rooms holding their notebooks and may even use that time to finish their homework.

The other thing that will affect your Sim's grades is their current mood. Try to ensure that they're not distracted, or even in a bad mood. If they need a quick boost to their emotions, have them pack snacks or grab a snack from the coffee cart between classes.

When in classes, your Sim has multiple options. I highly recommend that you should choose to either  actively listen or  take notes if you want a high grade. This does have the side effect of reducing your Sim's fun need at a faster rate than if you  attend class normally .

Your Sim does have other options such as sleeping in class, leaving early, or chatting with students , but this can hurt your Sim's grades.

After enrolling into university, your Sim will get a homework book that they'll stash in their inventory. This little book is a key item to getting high grades.

Your Sim will be set homework to be handed in to every class session your Sim attends. This includes homework set before the first classes of term, so your Sim will have homework from the moment you enrol.

Increasing your Sim's  Research and Debate skill helps them finish their homework quickly, so if you have a spare moment, try to spend some time increasing this skill. Learn more about them in our  The Sims 4 skills guide.

The Sims 4 university guide

Completing coursework

Throughout each term, your Sim will also need to complete coursework. These come in three varieties:

I cannot stress enough the value of getting your term papers and presentations done before each new term starts. By doing this, you'll have some free time to spend on boosting your Sim's fun meter, since actively listening or taking notes during lectures will reduce the fun meter harshly. Your Sim will also have more time to dedicate to extra studying through the computer.

After completing the last day of classes and finishing your assignments for each term, your Sim will be shown their final grade for that term after a few hours.

How to prepare presentations

When a term starts, you may find a presentation in your Sim's inventory. This is an empty green board that needs to be completed before submitting. To work on it, simply drag the item out of your Sim's inventory and place it on their lot.

The first step is to complete all the information on the board. Once this is done, you'll want to organise the board and refine the information to create a better quality presentation. If your Sim can call upon other Sims to get feedback, they can help refine it further.

After this is complete, make sure you practice your presentation at least once. You can practice it more times to increase your charisma skill, but it only needs to be done once to get the top grade.

Once you're satisfied that you've done all you can to make the presentation a great one, you'll need to present it. Your presentation can only take place between 8am and 4pm on weekdays . You must also present it before the final day of classes for that term. Click on the project, either where you placed it or in your inventory, and select "Give Presentation" to present it. It'll take two in-game hours to finish giving your presentation.

How to write term papers

All your Sim needs to write a term paper is a computer. Term papers can be written from the start of term.

To have your Sim write their paper, go to any computer and under the University tab, you'll find the Coursework section. Your Sim will then spend a few hours writing the paper, though it can be done in more than one sitting. Don't be tempted to submit a plagiarised term paper as you won't get the top grades for it. There is also a risk of getting caught and suspended for doing so.

Once your Sim has written the first draft of the paper, keep editing the term paper until you get a notification to say that you won't be able to make the paper any better. You could keep editing the paper to improve your knowledge, but this is a waste of valuable time.

You can then safely submit your paper. If you want to see how good it is while you work on it, hover your mouse over the submit button. You'll see a word that indicates the quality of the paper: poor, normal, or excellent. If it's excellent, submit that paper!

Much like homework, a high research and debate skill helps your Sim finish their term paper quickly. A good tip here is to plan ahead and have your Sims as teens work on the research and debate skill as they go through school. This  can be done cheaply in the home by practising debate in the mirror, which is good because you don’t have to buy an expensive and space consuming debating podium.

How to study for final exams

If your Sim's assignment for the term is to take the final exam, your Sim needs to study all term  if you want the top grades. You'll want to study at least twice in each class that has a final exam. There are a few ways to study for an exam:

  • The first is to use your computer. In the University section, select "University Coursework", then select "Study".
  • Your Sim can also study using the university's research machines in either the university library or in the commons. Select the "study for..." option.
  • Finally, your Sim can purchase textbooks from any bookcase or from the kiosks in the quad at the university. Each one costs §700.

When you have multiple final exams coming up, you may need to prioritise which modules you want your Sims to study for. They can email professors about their progress on each module, finding out which ones they're doing better or worse in. There’s no point doing this too early in a term, as the professors will say that it’s too early to tell.

How to complete coursework.

In The Sims 4: Discover University , your Sim will need to pass their classes in order to graduate with their chosen Degree, which includes completing Coursework like written papers and taking exams.

This guide teaches you everything you need to know about How to Complete Coursework in TS4, including writing and submitting papers, taking exams, and creating a presentation.

Click on any of the links below to automatically scroll to that section of this guide:

What is Coursework in The Sims 4?

How to write a term paper, how to take final exam, how to give a presentation.

In the Discover University Expansion Pack, student Sims who have enrolled in a degree will have to attend classes to pass the semester (which lasts a week). Showing up isn't enough, though—it also includes Coursework.

Because university life is so hectic, you will need to make sure your Sim balances work and study because if they're too busy with a job to go to class and complete their Coursework, they won't be able to graduate.

Sims 4 writing.png

To learn more about Degrees, including types and what careers your Sim can go into after graduating, check out our Degrees guide .

There are three types of Coursework:

  • Written Term Paper
  • Presentation

You can view each class your Sim is signed up for and what Coursework they'll need to complete that semester by clicking on the Career tab on your hotbar (or simply press J).

Sims 4 coursework.jpg

To write a Term Paper, your Sim will need access to a PC. Click on the PC, then "University" > "University Coursework" > "Term Paper." Here, you'll see two options: "Write Term Paper" and "Submit Plagiarized Term Paper."

If you want your Sim to get a good grade, don't cheat as it's impossible to get an A with a fake paper. Instead, choose for them to write it themselves.

Sims 4 pc coursework.jpg

After a few hours, your Sim will have produced their first draft. You can choose to hand this in but for a better grade, go back to the PC and click on "Edit Term Paper". Do this multiple times until you get a notification popup that says it is the best it can be. Now you can "Submit Term Paper" from the computer.

In Discover University , doing the Final Exam is easy: your Sim just goes to class on one of the final days of the semester and takes it automatically. But this doesn't mean there isn't work to do, though. If you want your Sim to get a high grade, they need to study.

Click on a PC, then "University" > "University Coursework" > "Study" and then choose the class the Final Exam is for. For a good grade, it's ideal that they study at least twice—the more, the better. They may also need to study for more than one class if multiple have a Final Exam as Coursework so make sure they have enough time to fit it all in!

Sims 4 study.png

It is also a good idea to raise the Skill that the class is tied to; again, the higher the better. You can check this in the Career tab in your hotbar.

This is the most confusing piece of Coursework your Sim is given as the game does not mention what you need to do, leaving you to figure it out for yourself. Upon starting the semester, a Presentation Board will be put in your Sim's inventory which you must place in the world.

Have your Sim interact with the board and "Compile Information." They will spend an hour or two throwing ideas onto the board. You can submit it like this, but if you want a higher grade, you will need to "Refine and Organize" until a popup appears notifying you it's the best it can be.

Sims 4 presentation.png

If you "Practice Presenting," your Sim's Charisma Skill will increase—something that you should ideally make them do a couple of times as it can help with the grade. Once this is done, your Sim will now be ready to hand their Presentation in.

Presentations can only be handed in during school hours: from Monday to Friday between 8AM and 4PM. Your Sim will be in class for a couple of hours while they present.

Sims 4 final presentation.jpg

Homework is separate from Coursework but is just as important. It is a daily task, meaning you'll have to do it for each of your Sim's classes every day. It takes a couple of hours to complete it for each class.

To do Homework, go to your Sim's inventory and you'll see a black and white class book. You can either click it from the inventory itself or place it in the world and then click it, but when you do, homework options for each of your Sim's classes will pop up.

Your Sim will go and sit down somewhere to finish their homework, and their progress can be tracked in the Action Queue on the bottom left. The more homework your Sim does, the better their grade will be for that class at the end of the semester.

Before you can give a presentation, you’ll have to make one! To do this, head into your character’s inventory and look for the presentation board. When you’re ready to begin working on it, place it anywhere in the world and select the board to find “Capture Information”. Click on this to start creating your presentation.

Once you make the presentation and select the board again, you’ll immediately find multiple options:

  • Ask for Feedback
  • Refine and Organize
  • Practice Presenting
  • Give Final Presentation
  • Put in Inventory

Typically, your presentation will start at a low quality. While you can still present it, your grades will be as high if you refine and organize it. Make sure to do this before giving your presentation if you want to maximize your chances of getting an A grade.

When ready, click “ Give Final Presentation ” to head towards the appropriate university building. Your character will bring the presentation board with them and perform over the span of 1-2 hours. Make sure you do this between 8 am-4:30 pm on a weekday, or else you won’t be able to give the presentation.

Once you complete this task, you’ll finish the course’s primary objective. Just make sure to keep an eye on your homework and attend class to maintain high grades.

The Sims 4: How to Get an A in University

If you really want your sims to struggle, you should send them to University. This is one of the hardest expansion packs we’ve gotten thus far for The Sims 4, and it’s well needed.

Having your sim attend University is simple, just go and hope for the best, however, if you want to get an A in University, you’re going to need to put in some work.

While other students will be at keg parties and attending soccer games, you’re going to be at the library or the commons studying into all hours of the night.

If you want to graduate with honours and have your sim get the best possible grades, you should follow this guide to get the most out of going to school.

In this guide we are going to talk about the importance of choosing your course load, attending your classes, doing homework, and making sure to do your end of term work.

Watch The Video

Did you know we have a Youtube Channel ? We make videos to go along with these articles and how to videos, as well as some gameplay stuff. You should definitely subscribe to us on Youtube !

Choosing Where to Live

It may not seem like choosing where you’re going to live for University matters much, it’s just where you sleep. However, there are certain factors that make living off campus on your own a better option.

First, you’ll spend less time cleaning up after other sims when they are messy, which can waste precious studying time. You also won’t have the annoyance of people in your room, or on your computer, or walking in on you while you’re showing like what happens in a dorm room.

Second, living off campus will give you access to a full kitchen on your lot and you won’t have to travel to the University commons just to get every single meal which will save you tons of time.

Finally, living in your own home means that you can give it the Study Spot lot trait which will help your sims pursue their studies and do better in their classes.

If you want your sim to graduate with honours and get all A’s, you should probably live alone, but it is possible to do in a dorm or shared housing.

Choosing Your Course Load

An important factor to consider if you’re trying to do well in University is how many classes you’re planning on taking.

Your sim has the option to take 4 classes, this can be 4 core classes or 3 core classes and an elective. An elective is just a fun class where they can gain a skill that is unrelated to their major.

You can take an elective every semester if you want, as these courses still count toward your degree and they will just give you some new skills that your sim doesn’t yet have.

You don’t have any say over which core classes you’ll be taking for your major, but you can choose how many you want to take. You can even just take 1 class a semester, however, this means you’ll be in school for most of your sim’s life.

Now, if you want your sim to get an A in University, you need to really think about how much work you want to do. If you take a full course load you’re really going to struggle to get straight A’s and still have your sim’s needs be met.

What is a good number of classes? Well, I recommend taking two regular classes and then one elective for a total of three classes . This means that you’ll be in school for 4 terms, or 20 days. You may want to turn off aging because this will be the entirety of your sim’s young adulthood.

Taking 4 classes is a lot and essentially means your sim can’t join any after school activities, organizations or anything else.

Going to Class

A simple fact of life is that failing to go to your classes each day, is going to make you not do as well at school. You won’t fail just because you never attend class (although it is a huge factor), but you won’t get an A either.

You must attend every single class for your all of the classes you’re taking if you want to get straight A’s. Also, you need to be on time for every class, it’s rather simple for you to be late if you live on campus so make sure that your sim isn’t doing anything that could distract them from leaving on time.

Sometimes when you live on campus, your sim will attend class early which is a great option to make sure that you’re leaving on time. All the sims will wait outside the building with their little homework notebooks and it’s absolutely adorable.

You also want to make sure that your sim is in a decent mood before they go to class so they aren’t distracted or in a bad mood. You can even pack a snack or grab a to-go snack from the coffee cart for a quick pick me up in between classes.

Being Active in Class

Although classes in The Sims 4: Discover University are rabbit holes, you still have the option of changing how your sim is learning in that class.

You can click on the little briefcase on top of your sim while they are in class and you’ll be given the following options:

  • Attend Class Normally
  • Chat with Students
  • Actively Listen
  • Sleep in Class
  • Leave Early

Some of these interactions are going to hurt your sim’s grades including: sleep in class, leave early, and chat with students .

If you want your sim to do well, you should choose either actively listen or take notes as these can help. However, this will also decrease your sims fun need quicker than just attending normally.

Doing Homework

Once your sim is enrolled in school they are going to get a black and white homework notebook that you can find in their inventory. This notebook is essential for doing well in University.

You’re going to have homework for every single class that you’re taking that is due before the next time you attend class. This means you need to start your homework before the term actually starts!

Your sim may arrive at University on a Monday, but their term won’t start until the next day, but their homework needs to be done before class. So after your sim has settled, you need to start working on their next day’s homework.

Homework takes a few hours but if your sim has a higher level of the new research and debate skill they will finish their homework quicker which is extremely convenient.

Doing Coursework

Every class that you’re taking will have daily homework, but will also have one larger task that you need to do throughout the course of the term.

There are three different types of coursework your sim may have: presentations, term papers, and final exams.

Preparing Presentations

One of the tasks your sim may need to complete is a presentation . When your term starts you’ll get a presentation board in your sim’s inventory, it’s a giant green board that’s empty when you get it.

You’ll need to drag this item out of your sim’s inventory and place it somewhere on their lot so they can work on it. The first step is to compile all the information on the board, when this task is complete the project will look like a mess.

While you’re working on the project you can hover over it to see the quality, if you want an A we need an excellent or outstanding presentation! At this point, it will probably be poor.

The next step is to organize the board and refine your information until it’s a better qualtiy presentation. You can also ask other sim’s for feedback before you do this to get another perspective and make it even better quality.

Once the project is as good as it’s going to get your sim will get a notification that they are done editing the presentation and continuing to refine won’t do much other than give them more knowledge for the class.

You can still practice your presentation to improve your charisma skill , I suggest you do this at least once if you want to get an A in your class.

Once your sim has practiced their presentation and it is excellent or outstanding quality it’s time to present. You can only present from 8am – 4pm on weekdays, so you need to plan accordingly and it needs to be presented before the last day of classes.

To present, you click on the project and your sim will be sent away into a rabbit hole where they will be gone for around two hours doing their presentation.

Writing Term Papers

The next option your sim may get is to write a term paper, this works pretty similarly to the presentation where you need to complete the paper then edit it and submit it on the computer.

The nice thing about writing papers and doing presentations is that you can get it done right away and don’t need to worry about it every day until the term ends, you can write it in the first day of classes if you want!

A sim who has a really high research and debate skill will finish their term paper much, much quicker which is really helpful. It may even be useful to plan ahead for this and get your teen sims to work on this skill before they age up and attend school.

A term paper is written on the computer under the University > Coursework section. You will spend a few hours writing this paper and it can be done in more than one sitting. There’s also the option to submit a stolen paper, but this is not how you get an A!

Once you finish the first draft of your paper, chances are it’s going to be poor quality. You’ll need to edit the paper at least once, maybe twice until you get a notification letting you know that you aren’t going to be able to make it any better.

At this point, continuing to edit the paper will just give you more knowledge but is really a waste of time since there’s other classes to focus on. At this point you can submit your term paper.

To check the quality of your paper before submitting you can hover over the submit button and it will let you know what level it is so you don’t submit a poor quality paper.

Studying for Exams

When you see that your only coursework for the semester is to take final exam , you may feel excited since all you have to do is write the exam. Well, you’re wrong! You need to study all semester.

If you want your sim to just do okay, you can send them to the exam without any preparation. However, if you want them to get an A, you need to study.

There are a few different ways to study for exams. The first is to click on a computer and under the University section you’ll see university coursework , if you click on that you can see the option to study ! You can choose the class where you have a final exam and this will be helpful.

You can also study using the new research machines that are found in the commons or at the library. You’ll see a study for … option.

Finally, you can purchase a textbook for your courses at one of the kiosks located in the quad at the University. This is also where you can buy items to decorate a dorm room! You can also purchase these textbooks from any bookcase, they are going to cost you §700 though!

If you really want that A in a class with a final exam, you should study at least twice for it whenever you have a chance.

Getting Your Grades

Once you’ve attend your last day of classes and finally finished all of your coursework, your sim will be given their final grades after a few hours. Hopefully, these grades will be filled with A’s since you’ve now learned how to get an a in University!

Final Thoughts

I've been playing the Sims since the first game was released when I was only 5 years old. It's been a huge passion of mine for two decades and I've loved every single minute of it. I also love dogs. And grilled cheese sandwiches. And I think me and Bob Pancakes could be friends.

is there an ideal mood for taking a final exam? thanks

My sims always seem to do well when they are focused

Do you know if it matters at what point in the “term” you submit the paper or present the presentation? like do you get a better grade the quicker you do it or the closer you do it to the end of the class (like when you have the most knowledge from the class)?

I honestly have no idea, I just always make sure it’s excellent or outstanding quality before submitting but have never paid attention to the timing

I wondered about this too, but found out it doesn’t matter how early you submit it. Now I try and submit mine all before term starts!

My Sim maxed her Charisma and Logis skills while at High School and she just started her first term in uni and her research and debate skill is at 8. Will this affect her negatively in getting good grades? I ensured she worked hard at High School so that she could get into a distinguished program. But will her maxed out skill levels now be an issue.

No, it will not be an issue. It makes it easier to get excellent-quality papers if the skills you have maxed out are needed for the course.

The sims 4 player builds impressive victorian home in the base game, the sims 4: 10 best romantic storylines, quick links, how to study for university exams, how to take university exams.

In The Sims 4: Discover University , players can have their Sims seek higher education at an esteemed university. Two colleges are available in the pack, the University of Britechester and the Foxbury Institute. The Expansion pack allows Sims to stay in dorms, join societies, take classes, and more. The coursework can be strenuous, especially the exams, without the proper time and dedication.

Every class has a final exam or assignment that Sims must complete that goes toward their final grade. The grading system is more intense than in high school, and exam scores are a huge factor in grades. If Sims fail their exams, they could fail the class and will have to retake it all over again. So, here's everything players need to know about studying for exams and how to pass them in The Sims 4: Discover University .

RELATED: The Sims 4: High School Years - How to Graduate Early

The Sims 4

The coursework is relatively the same regardless of which university players choose to send their Sims. Sims can take up to four classes over seven days, each representing a specific Skill. Sims will have daily homework, just like in high school , and a final assignment that determines their overall grade for the semester. There are three kinds of final assignments:

  • Final Presentation

The Final Exam is the most straightforward but also the most unpredictable if procrastinated on. To study for the exam , Sims must ensure they regularly practice the Skill for the course. Additionally, they should study on a computer or at the Electromagnetic Research Archive Machine found in Build/Buy mode. Click on either machine and locate the "University" tab. From there, select "University Coursework," and the option to study for any classes with a Final Exam will appear. Players will know their Sims is prepared for that exam whenever they receive a Confident Moodlet. Finally, repeat the process for any other Final Exams.

The Sims 4

On the last day of the term, Sims will automatically take their Final exams during their scheduled class time. Unfortunately, they sometimes become tense or nauseous due to testing nerves, so last-minute studying isn't always possible. Make sure to arrive on time to class, or Sims will have a higher chance of getting a low score. However, courses with a Term Paper or Final Presentation require more hands-on attention to pass their finals which must be done before the final term day ends.

Submit a Term Paper

The Sims 4

There are classes in Discover University that require students to submit a Term Paper rather than take a Final Exam. Sims must use a computer to write their Term Paper, which should be done well before 6 PM on the last day to leave room for editing. From the "University Coursework" menu on any computer or laptop, Sims will find the "Term Paper" option if they have one that semester. After selecting "Term Paper," Sims will be faced with writing a term paper or submitting a plagiarized one. Nevertheless, there is a chance they will be caught plagiarizing, and it is impossible to get an A using this method.

Writing a Term Paper will take a few hours, but Sims with a high Research and Debate Skill work faster. Once the first draft is complete, the paper can be edited to improve its quality. Lastly, remember to submit the term paper on the computer whenever ready before the end of the term.

Give a Final Presentation

The Sims 4

Sims may also be tasked with giving a Final Presentation for their final assignment. At the start of the term , if any class requires a Final Presentation, Sims will get a Presentation Board sent straight to their inventory. To prepare for the presentation, place the Presentation Board somewhere in the world. Then, click on it to pull up the "Compile Information" option, and Sims will add documents and pictures.

When it is done, they can organize it or practice presenting it to another Sim to increase the quality. Sims will know their board is as perfect as it can be when they get a pop-up saying any further editing will increase the Skill rather than change the presentation. To submit the presentation, click on the board and choose "Give Final Presentation" between 8 AM and 4 PM on weekdays. All final grades will be announced at 6 PM on the last day of the term.

The Sims 4: Discover University is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Sims 4 University Guide – Everything You Need To Know

Photo of author

The Sims 4: Discover University introduces to the players the University of Britechester and Foxbury Institute. So what will it be? The University of Britechester focuses more on creative arts and is older and richer with history. Foxbury Institute is newer and features classes to aid in careers such as becoming a scientist or an astronaut.

Which Is Better Foxbury or Britechester University?

If you prefer to tinker, do rocket science, or program then Foxbury is just the right fit for you, but if you like the flashing lights of acting, being a detective or perhaps being a social media influencer then maybe the University of Britechester is better. Foxbury is directly related to science-related careers usually, Britechester is more for creative work like writing, painting, or acting. You can take up to 4 classes or fewer with electives to learn separate skills to graduate.

Degrees in The Sims 4 are not too hard to earn given you are never tired, always full, and need no one, which can be achieved through the reward store. However, there is plenty to do at university while you’re there which can make it quite fun like creating a Servo or doing keg stands. It’s also important to keep the “Academic” aspiration in mind when applying. Let us do a deep dive into what all goes into first getting there and then achieving maximum success.

how to do presentation sims 4

Applying For College

When you are applying for college it is always wise to take out your phone or get on your computer and E-mail that former guidance counselor about scholarships. Eventually, they will get back to you with the scholarships you will most likely achieve. This does not mean you can’t get more, but, ultimately you will have no problem with the scholarships they recommend. After you apply for scholarships through your computer or phone you will receive your response in just a couple of days.

After receiving your response from your scholarships, you can apply for college. This is where you decide what job you’re going to want to pursue after college. Getting your skills increased in the particular subject area of study you’ll be doing will help with being accepted, like writing to be a writer. After that, you choose your degree and apply.

✨ Learn the many ways of becoming famous in the Sims 4 in our guide. ✨

Distinguished Degrees vs. Regular Degrees

Both universities offer the same degrees, however, they specialize in different areas. This is where distinguished degrees come in. Foxbury may be a school specializing in science and technology and therefore having distinguished degrees in those subjects, but it will always offer regular degrees in creative arts and humanities. The same goes for the University of Britechester, so it’s important to pick the correct university when deciding on your career path as a distinguished degree will be better in the long run.

University Sims 4

Going to university from home is the cheapest option as you do not have to pay for housing and scholarships will eat up the cost of your classes. It is also the most efficient as your Sim will treat it as a job and go to it when it calls to them. Not only that but you’re familiar with your house and thus you know where everything is and you can customize it at any time you need.

UBrite Housing

Offers five different types of housing settings, one of which is free and that is your house of course and you just pay for the classes, the other four are paid for by term unless you decide to move off of campus and off your lot. They are:

  • At Home: Free – However many people live in your household
  • Off Campus: However much the cost of the house is you’re moving to + cost/term of classes
  • Darkwing Hall: $558/term – 4 bedrooms – No gender restrictions
  • Drake Hall: $326/term – 8 bedrooms – No gender restrictions
  • Wyvern Hall: $312/term – 8 bedrooms – No gender restrictions – Best of Friends Household

Foxbury Housing

  • At Home: Free – However many people are living in your household
  • Off Campus: Cost of home + cost/term of classes
  • Briny Tower: $95/term – 8 bedrooms – No gender restrictions
  • Maritime Manor – $585/term – 4 bedrooms – No gender restrictions
  • Tidal Tower – $293/term – 8 bedrooms – No gender restrictions

At-home or off-campus housing is certainly a good option as your Sim will treat university like a regular job and go to it when your classes call. You can customize your personal home when you feel the need to but you cannot customize the dorms when you move into on-campus housing. On-campus housing has the benefit of meeting new people and being closer to organizations and classes and just general immersion in the entire idea. Ultimately, it is entirely up to you with what you would like to do when the time comes to go to university and get a degree.

Getting Good Grades

If you take four classes, you will have a presentation, term paper, or likely both that can be pulled out of your inventory or completed on the computer. Your presentation can be completed by pulling it out of your inventory and placing it into the world. This will usually give it a starting condition of “poor” but then it’s time to refine and organize it until its condition is excellent. After that, you can give the presentation at any point between 8 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. by the end of the term.

Your term paper is written on a computer which can be found at the Ubrite Commons or Foxbury Commons or if you have one yourself. After you finish the paper you can go back and edit it to make it in much better condition before submitting it.

It’s important to also complete homework, which is stored in your inventory and looks like a composition notebook. Sims have a tendency to just put it down anywhere they like. You can buy additional homework notebooks from stands/kiosks around campus for one simoleon if you need to, I suggest buying three or four.

Studying is an important aspect of classes as well, using an Electromagnetic Research Archive Machine, or just a computer if you like. To get a good idea of how you’re doing, you can “E-mail Professors About Progress”. Then you will know exactly what to study for.

After School Activities

There are many after-school activities from which you can partake and even earn money. You can join an E-sports team or an outdoor sports team. To make some money on the side, you can tutor students for a few hours and earn 100 simoleons. Attending guest lectures is also an option and a goal for the “Academic” aspiration. Guest lectures can be found in buildings around the center statues of each university, but they provide no benefit to you.

Depending on the university you go to, you have a few different organizations you can choose from which are separate from clubs. If you join the University of Britechester, you can decide between

The Debate Guild

Ubrite spirit corps.

  • Art Society

If you go with Foxbury Institute then you can choose between:

Bot Savants

Foxbury spirit squad, the brainiacs, organizations.

Organizations can be joined while in university, at a kiosk by checking for organization events, separate from a club you may be in until the end of your time in university. They are like a job in that you have to do certain tasks at your leisure and you will eventually get promoted. There is no penalty for failing to do a task by the next time you are needed to go to a meeting. If you cannot go to a meeting then do not fret, your progress and organization rank carries over into your next term. You can go through the organization as fast or slow as you like, it is entirely flexible.

The University of Britechester offers a variety of creative arts and humanities organizations that you can join based on your skill or what you are studying that would be beneficial to you. It’s important to note that to maintain a good grade, you have to strike a balance between class and time spent with the club. You can take to the stage and furiously debate ideas with The Debate Guild which would be especially helpful if you have a degree that moves towards needing the research and debate skill in a job.

I found that doing just the tasks required and only visiting a few events during my college degree was enough to get me to be a senior member. If I was completing an 8 class degree. The events do not get you much in terms of reputation unless you do specifically what is requested.

  • Organization T-Shirt
  • Organization Poster

Once you get to the second rank of The Debate Guild which gives you the title of “Seasoned Member” you now have access to:

  • Earning extra credit for your Communications, History, Language, Psychology, and Economics classes when participating in The Debate Guild events

At the third and final rank, you become a “Senior Member” and have now have admittance to use the Debate Guild jacket, the TY84 Gold Plus Research Archive Machine, and the ability to convince your professor to help with a class or raise your grade.

If you are loyal to your university and what it is about, then perhaps the Spirit Corps is for you! Represent with your fellow students and Darby the Dragon by meeting up at the bar and doing keg stands, or going to Foxbury and de-facing their center statue (it is a creative arts college). You can think of the Ubrite Spirit Corps or the Foxbury Spirit Squad as essentially cheerleaders, or very similar to a club in what they do or represent.

  • Dragon Pong Table

If neither of those suits your fancy then perhaps you’d like to paint happy little paintings with your friends. The Art Society requests the least amount of your time from your university studies and is great if you’re studying to have a career in painting.

The rewards are similar at the beginning for each organization but different towards the end.

Bot Savants

Do you like making robots? Having a brush with death because you have no idea what you’re doing and electrocute yourself? Perhaps you just enjoy making Servo and adding one to your household. The Secret Society

The Secret Society identifies with neither university specifically, but rather just itself and university students that perform the correct ritual to be summoned amongst the ranks. To be accepted into the ranks of The Secret Society, there are certain things you must offer to your university’s statue for good grades. Then go back to your dorm and fall asleep. After you’ve fallen asleep you’ll be awoken by members of the society to be accepted. Those certain things to offer are:

  • Excellent quality food items
  • Pristine gardening harvestables
  • Rare crystals/metals

The Secret Society is also known as the “Order of Enchantment” and tasks may include such things as making offerings at the statue, participating in events for the Order, or tending to the sprite’s garden. There are ranks for the Order of Enchantment and that includes:

  • Order Robes
  • Ability to perform sprite attacks on other Sims
  • Gain ability to summon powerful sprites on yourself

The Order of Enchantment’s meet-up place is across from the local bar at Gibb’s Hill in the Ruins where you may find an interesting looking area.

Graduation in Sims 4

Graduation

If it is your first time getting a degree then you will need to complete 12 classes or three terms if you’re taking 4 classes a term to graduate. Upon graduation, you will receive your final grade and determination on whether or not you passed with honors or if you failed. Not only that but you will be kicked out of your organization as that is only allowed for university members. Graduation takes place the following day around noon when it is announced to you.

You can choose to go to graduation or not, it does not matter and is entirely up to you. Either way, if you go, you will enter into a building (and disappear) and come out with several members and toss your caps in the air. Upon graduation, you will receive a graduation picture of yourself, your graduation certificate to hang on the wall, and a lot of incentives for any job that your degree was intended for. You will receive more vacation days more often and a massive pay raise. Now doesn’t that sound awesome!

Bug Fixed

Presentation Board disappeared from Inventory

Dec, 12th 2019

This bug was fixed in  Patch 1.59.73 . There are still some reports of the board going missing. Please use the AHQ thread linked if you still have issues.

My Sim needs to do a term presentation for his class but the board has disappeared from the inventory/lot.

how to do presentation sims 4

Things have a general tendency to disappear form the inventory, especially if you travel or move. This can also happen with the presentation board.

  • Place the board in your housing instead of keeping it in the inventory
  • Avoid moving during the term
  • Save your game before you travel
  • Save your game under a new name before you move.

Contrary to homework that you can just re-buy on the bookshelves, there’s no option to acquire a new presentation board. Because of this, there’s no solution to this issue and you need to do end the class without doing the presentation.

how to do presentation sims 4

This mod still seems to do it’s job but since the resources it uses have been updated multiple times, you should not use it. You can try using it at your own risk to get a new board but after you did so, please remove the mod again

The following mod allows you to get a new board from your professor. Click on Computer > University > Email professors about progress  and choose the class with the missing board. You should then get a new board to your inventory.

The Sims 5: rumors, leaks, release date speculation, and more

It’s time to brush up on your Simlish if it’s rusty because the long-awaited The Sims 5, aka Project Rene, is officially on the way. This has been the longest gap between main entries since the series began, and while we did get tons of expansions for The Sims 4 to hold us over, plus the change to it becoming free to play, we’re more than ready for a new entry. Each time a new game in the franchise comes out, die-hard fans always need to have a bit of skepticism about what features will be there — both new and returning.

Release date speculation

Gameplay speculation, rumors and leaks.

We can’t answer all your questions yet, but here’s everything we know about The Sims 5 .

Still referred to by the code name Project Rene, The Sims 5 (which we will call it until the official title is revealed) does not have a release window as of now. Developer Maxis did state it was working on it in October 2022 at the Behind the Sims Summit presentation. The only clue we got there was this statement from Lyndsay Pearson, franchise creative vice president: “Over the next couple of years, we’ll continue sharing updates with all of you on Project Rene.”

Based on that, we can speculate that The Sims 5 won’t come before 2025 at the earliest.

No platforms are officially listed for The Sims 5; however, it is pretty certain to come to PC. The sneak peek also mentioned transferring the game to mobile devices, perhaps suggesting that additional platform.

While it’s technically not a trailer, the Behind the Sims Summit provided all the footage we have of The Sims 5 . It shows off some very early footage of furniture decorating and customization but leaves quite a bit left to be revealed.

Based on the presentation, we know a few systems will be available in (or at least planned for) The Sims 5 . First is a much more robust version of the Create-A-Style tool previously used in The Sims 3 . You can now upload your own custom designs to a gallery to use and place on furniture, which can also be further tweaked and edited on a smaller scale than ever before.

The other big detail here is that The Sims 5 will have multiplayer, though the full extent of it is still unclear. We know that you can collaborate on sharing and creating with friends but also play completely on your own. We don’t know if this will extend to actually bringing our Sims together just yet.

Everything we’re going to talk about below should be considered rumors until EA officially confirms any of the details.

The biggest reported leak comes from a Reddit post in which a user claims to have datamined the entire Sims 5 map through a leaked playtest build of the game. This leaked map shows the area of the map accessible in said playtest in relation to the entire map, which is also said to be open world. The map itself is based on Paris compared to actual pictures of the real-world location.

A more disappointing rumor comes in the form of DRM. Some are suggesting that the title will come with the much-maligned Denuvo anti-cheat.

Object placement is also supposedly getting an upgrade with attached physics that lets you place and drop objects in your world more naturally. This can cause objects to tip if placed on uneven ground or if enough weight is placed on one side.

As the team stated, The Sims 5 is years away. We will see it many more times, and perhaps even have a chance to enter some betas, long before preordering becomes an option. When those details do arrive, we will make sure you have all the info you need.

In 2021, the original Splitgate became an overnight success when word spread about its beta. It blended the best elements of arena shooters with the mind-bending mechanics of Portal. Instead of simply running and shooting around a map, all players had the ability to create portals to flank and create new sightlines through. This opened up a ton of possibilities, and yet the game was almost immediately abandoned after reaching 1.0. Now, developer 1047 Games is back with a full sequel. Splitgate 2 isn't just a few more maps and guns, but a full-on sequel. Let's jump through this portal and get the drop on all the details about this new game. Release date window

Splitgate 2 only has a rough release window of 2025. There's no way to tell right now when next year it will come, but it would be safer to assume in the second half. Platforms Splitgate 2 will be available for most platforms when it is released. This includes PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will also be free-to-play so everyone is welcome to jump in and give it a shot. Trailers Splitgate 2 Cinematic Announcement Trailer

The Sims 4 is proving to be quite the popular life simulator, and a great addition to the long-running Sims series. But when you’re always running out of money, or can’t get that item you’ve been dying to utilize, inputting a cheat code or two can make things a little easier, and much more fun (especially if you’ve been struggling). Fortunately, EA — the game’s developer — realizes how fun using cheat codes can be, and has triumphantly stood behind these Sims 4 modifications.

Whether you’re playing the game on a PC, PlayStation 5, or other console, we’ve rounded up all the cheats you’ll need to know for The Sims 4. We’ll be sure to update this post as new codes are added.  How to enable cheats in The Sims 4

Fans of a galaxy far, far away are finally getting the games they've always wanted. After the less-than-ideal handling of the Star Wars franchise by EA up until the two Star Wars Jedi games, fans have been eager to explore new stories in this vast universe, as well as lore that isn't addressed in the films.

The first to take a crack at it in a big-budget title is going to be Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment with the new Star Wars Outlaws. This franchise has a huge history, tons of lore, and devoted fans picking apart every detail. If you want to know where this new adventure is going to take you, turn off your targeting computer, trust in the Force, and check out everything we know so far about Star Wars Outlaws. Release date Star Wars Outlaws will arrive on August 30, 2024. Platforms

What Is a High-Paying Remote Job?

A job is about so much more than what you do every day. Who you work with, who you work for, your work environment, and your benefits are all important factors — and can be critical elements to your job search and decision-making process.

If you’re looking for a job you can do from home that pays well, knowing what high-paying remote jobs are out there is the best place to start. Here’s your go-to guide to high-paying remote jobs across industries and how to find and land your own.

A high-paying remote job has two main factors: it pays well and allows you to work outside of an office.

What Is a “High-Paying” Job?

A job that “pays well” can mean many different things to different people. How someone defines a “high-paying job” often depends on their employment history, cost of living, expenses, and location.

For example, a $60,000 salary for an entry-level employee living in a rural area might be considered high, but the same $60,000 would feel relatively low to a mid-level employee living in an expensive city. When you decide what a “high-paying job” means to you, you should only consider your specific circumstances — your budget, your needs, and the cost of living in your city.

For the sake of this guide, we’ve considered “high-paying” anything close to $100,000.

>>MORE: 10 Jobs That Pay $100K a Year

What Is a Remote Job?

A remote job can be done outside a traditional office or on-site workplace. These roles don’t require commuting or working from a specific location.

Instead, remote jobs are primarily online, where you can work independently and communicate virtually with coworkers.

For the sake of this guide, we’ve considered a “remote job” any job where you can carry out its primary responsibilities outside of an office. While companies have in-office requirements for some of these roles, the point is that these roles can be done remotely.

If you’re looking up “high-paying remote jobs,” there’s a chance you’re already considering a career where you can work from home. Yet, if you still need convincing, there are many reasons why a remote job can be beneficial, even if you’re starting out:

  • Work-life balance : While some people may find it difficult to blur the lines between work and home without a physical office, remote jobs make it easier to infuse some of your life into your workday — or get your life back! For example, you might be able to throw in a load of laundry during a break or spend an hour working out in the morning instead of commuting.
  • Productivity: The office can be great for collaboration but can also be distracting. Working from home minimizes external interruptions that occur when working in a busy shared space, making it easier to get your job done.
  • Autonomy: Remote jobs allow you to set your work environment to whatever makes you most productive and comfortable. You may also have more flexibility regarding when and where you take regular work breaks.

While there are benefits to being in the office, such as collaboration and meeting coworkers, these benefits are still possible when working remotely. It might take extra effort to make the same connections.

So, what high-paying remote jobs are out there? Here are more than 25 roles that pay well and don’t require in-office work.

Writers use words to explain concepts, share information, promote products, and more. As a writer, I work on articles that explain jobs to students (like this one!), but sometimes I write email copy or help with social media captions. While all these tasks are focused on the written word, the possibilities are endless. Like me, many writers can work remotely as our work is typically independent. I find it’s better to be at home alone with fewer distractions when writing!

Landing high-paying remote jobs is all about finding these roles and applying strategically.

Find the Right Roles

Start with a targeted search for high-paying remote roles by looking at niche job search sites and using search filters.

For example, sites like FlexJobs and We Work Remotely are job boards specifically for remote positions. Sites like The Ladders only show roles that pay more than $100k.

You can also get savvy while searching on general job boards. Most job boards have search filters where you can check off whether you’re looking for hybrid or remote work or specific salary bands you want.

While niche sites and filtering can help you find target roles, Tramelle D. Jones, strategic success and workplace wellness coach with TDJ Consulting, warns against only looking for and applying to roles with these qualifications.

“Removing these options from my job search will slow down your momentum, resulting in fewer callbacks,” she says. “Remember, there is always room to negotiate a position into what you want it to be.”

It’s OK to widen your net slightly — and include roles that might be hybrid or offer a somewhat lower salary — if you’re ready to show your skills and negotiate in the interview process.

It’s cliché advice for a reason: networking is a powerful lever when you’re trying to land a new role.

“You have to talk to strangers,” Jones says. “I know what your mom told you about ‘stranger danger,’ but when it comes to professional networking, that’s the biggest game-changer!”

Jones advises starting by looking into the niche communities of the industries you’re interested in. For example, if you’re interested in being an accountant, you might find that there are people at your school who are also interested in the field and have connections with alums. There are also professional accounting organizations and associations you can join.

“Going to their networking events and meetups, even joining their LinkedIn Groups, is a great way to speak with people who are excited to talk to newcomers about how to be successful in their industry,” Jones says. “You can get free advice over finger foods or solicit a referral over cocktails.”

Once you’ve made a connection, the critical step is to ask for recommendations or job leads. While this can be nerve-wracking, always lead with respect and focus on asking for advice rather than a direct position.

>>MORE: How to Ask for an Internship (Email Examples)

Jones recommends using a script like:

Hey there, I’m currently looking for high-paying remote roles in [your field/industry] and wondered if you might have any leads or recommendations. I’m especially interested in opportunities involving [mention specific skills or interests]. Any advice or referrals would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

“Once you send this message, forget about it,” she advises. “If they respond, great! If not, don’t take it personally. It’s in your favor to send this message to multiple people, considering that only three out of ten may respond.”

Show Your Remote-Specific Skills

If you’re hoping to land a high-paying remote job, it’s helpful to show the potential employer why you’re right for the role — specifically, why you’re right for the remote role. On your resume , be sure to:

  • Highlight remote work experience: If you’ve led a project remotely or worked on a remote team before, call that out directly on your resume. You can do this by adding the work location as “remote” in your experience section or describing remote aspects of your work experience. For example, you may mention that you worked asynchronously or across time zones.
  • Quantify your achievements: Show your impact within a remote setting by quantifying your achievements. For instance, you may have increased productivity or saved money and time with remote processes or tools.
  • Share remote work tools: List remote collaboration tools you’ve used in your skills section or write about how you used them in your experience section.

Make Your Case

The interview is the time to speak to your accomplishment, skills, and career goals and show you’re right for the role. If you’re looking for a high-paying remote role, it’s crucial to highlight any successes you had while working remotely.

“Each interview is a great opportunity to hone your pitch and explain why your skillset is built for being highly successful in a remote position,” Jones says. Use every interview to get better at expressing your past successes with self-motivation, discipline, communication , problem-solving , adaptability , time management , proactiveness, virtual team collaboration, and organizational skills. Give specific examples where you can. But never rule out applying for a position just because it doesn’t say remote.”

Whether you’re interested in tech jobs or looking for something in marketing, there are high-paying remote jobs across industries and skill sets. To find and land these jobs, you’ll need to be savvy with your search — but not too targeted! — and demonstrate your past success working in remote environments.

Delivering presentations is a powerful way to stand out at work. While presenting, especially via Zoom, can be daunting, mastering this skill can be a game-changer for your career. By delivering compelling presentations, you not only get noticed but also make a significant deposit in your personal brand bank. Here are eight tips to help you create presentations that are magnetic, mesmerizing, and memorable.

1. Grab ’Em From The Get-Go

First impressions are crucial due to a cognitive bias known as primacy, which means we form lasting opinions based on initial experiences. Start your presentation with something unexpected, interesting, and fun—like a riddle, quiz, inspiring video, or special guest. This sets the tone and signals to your audience that this presentation will be unique and engaging. Remember, if you don’t capture their attention from the start, you may lose them entirely.

2. Profit From The Power Of Three

Renowned keynote speakers and marketers often use the psychological power of three because it's a potent tool for making information memorable and easy to digest. Structure your content into three key themes or segments. One effective approach is Aristotle's triptych: tell your audience what you're going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them. This repetition reinforces your message and ensures it sticks.

3. Increase Interaction

In virtual presentations, multitasking by the audience is your biggest nemesis. To combat this, incorporate interactive elements like word clouds, hand-raising, chats, whiteboards, or contests. Tools like PollEverywhere , Slido , and Mentimeter can help keep your audience engaged and focused, reducing the temptation to multitask.

4. Supersize Your Slides

For online presentations, it's crucial to ensure your slides are easily readable on all devices, including mobile phones. Use large font sizes (32 pt. or higher) and limit your text to 12 words or fewer per slide. Prioritize visuals and videos, which are more engaging than text alone. Platforms like Unsplash and Pexels offer a wealth of free images to enhance your slides.

5. Vivify With Video

Incorporate short, impactful videos to add energy and reinforce your message. YouTube has a vast array of content on almost any topic. Choose videos that are both entertaining and relevant, keeping them brief (1-2 minutes) to maintain engagement without distracting from your presentation.

6. Make Mixed Media Your Mantra

Avoid monotony to keep your audience attentive. Vary the content, format, and medium of your presentation. Use pattern interrupts like animated GIFs or sound effects to re-engage your audience and prevent them from zoning out.

7. Say It With Stories

Stories are an incredibly effective tool for engagement. Neuroscience shows that storytelling can boost audience retention by up to 65-70%, compared to just 5-10% for facts alone. Personal stories, in particular, help build a connection with your audience, making your message more meaningful and memorable.

8. Exude Emotion

While facts and data lend credibility to your presentation, emotions create lasting impressions. As Maya Angelou famously said, "People will forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Infuse your presentation with emotion to add a personal touch and foster a stronger connection with your audience. Before you start, ask yourself: How do I want my audience to feel after my presentation?

By incorporating these fun and engaging techniques, you can transform your online presentations into magnetic, mesmerizing and memorable experiences, enhancing your personal brand along the way.
