10 Inspirational Locker Room Speeches That Will Remind You It's More Than Just A Game

When it comes down to it, a sport is much more than just a game. You're playing for your team. You're playing for your brothers, your sisters and anyone who ever believed in you.

But when you're getting your ass whooped, sometimes it's hard to keep the faith. However as we all know, it's how you react to adversity and bounce back that measures the greatness of an individual.

The true leaders are guys who motivate those around them. And, sometimes, this needs to be vocalized just like we've seen in countless locker room speeches.

Once you master this, it can be applied to anything in life as the recipe for success is pretty much universal -- hard work and not being afraid to fail! These are 10 Inspirational Locker Room Speeches That Will Remind You It's More Than Just A Game.

Jameis Winston Fires Up Florida State

Even as a freshman for no. 1 Florida State, Jameis Winston proved his value as a leader with this brief, but epic halftime speech. Down to Clemson heading into the third, Famous Jameis reminded his brothers that they should smile. There was just no way he was letting them leave Death Valley without a win. The fact that he went on to lead his team to the victory only solidifies his status as this year's Heisman winner.

Ray Lewis Hypes Up The Stanford Men's Basketball Team

Before a 2010 NIT Tournament at Madison Square Garden, Ray Lewis surprised the Stanford basketball team by delivering them a rousing speech before tipoff. That extra motivation was all they needed as they went on to win the championship game over Minnesota.

West Virginia Coach Bill Stewart Inspires His Troops

Former West Virginia Mountaineers coach Bill Stewart died suddenly from a heart attack in May 2012 at the age of 59, but he left his mark with his team when it counted. Before a match up between Oklahoma in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl, he left no doubt what the team needed to do as the Mountaineers went on to best the Sooners to win the game. His ability to motivate the team was his biggest strength as a coach and this moment proved it. This man was a true legend.

Ed Reed At The University of Miami

Before he was patrolling NFL secondaries, Ed Reed was a legend at the college level for the Miami Hurricanes. Hurting at the half, he didn't have much else to say to his team than to try harder. Playing while injured, Ed Reed is probably the last of a dying breed of safeties who put it all out on the line. If you need any more convincing that he was born to do this, then watch this.

Les Miles Plays For Victory

Les Miles has one motive every time he takes his team out onto the field: play for victory. Dominate the opponent, play together and beat their ass. This recipe for success has been pretty solid for him as one of the top teams in the SEC as he has the power to make his team rise up to any occasion.

Chuck Pagano After Beating Cancer

After his year-long (successful) battle with cancer, Colts head coach visited the team in the locker room to thank them for their support and help when his family needed it most. Then rookie quarterback Andrew Luck had a lot to do with the team's success, but it was all 53 guys on the roster who made their 2012 season a success and building block for the team's future. His illness surely made everyone realize that they were playing for more than just themselves, but for everyone around them.

LeBron James Fires Up The Heat In The Playoffs

I'll admit, this isn't the most motivational pre-game speech of all time, but these are the words and advice of one of the best ever to play the game. LeBron James has the mental aspect of the game down as he stays focused through some of the biggest distractions to continue to perfect his game and to make others around him better. Plus he has the heart of a champion!

Tim Tebow Proves His Greatness

When it's all said and done, and we can take a step back to look at things, Tim Tebow will probably go down as the greatest college football player of all time. His time at Florida was something truly special as he literally did everything for his team on the field. But it was what we didn't see that truly separated him. His leadership was unsurpassed as he was just one of those guys who plays with his emotion and instincts, which, in most cases, got his team the win. What a shame he doesn't play in the NFL today.

Ray Lewis Gets Deep (Pause)

Ray Lewis is a master of pre-game, halftime and post-game speeches. And while former teammate Joe Flacco said some of the things he said didn't even make sense, what does he know? Defensive players always have to get jacked up for their team and Ray Lewis was the greatest at it. He dug deep into his teammate's souls to bring the best out of them and that got him a Super Bowl ring during his last year in the league.

Louisiana Coach Mark Hudspeth Goes HAM

Raging Cajuns head coach Mark Hudspeth had his team playing one of the biggest games in school history back in 2011 when they faced off against San Diego State at the SuperDome. If he weren't being so damn motivational, he could've caught a charge for grabbing and pushing his players like that. But it was all to amp them up as they got the win.

8 Inspirational Football Locker Room Speeches

Knute Rockne football player locker room painting Arnold Friberg.

The college football season starts on Saturday (okay, technically Thursday. But I’m saying Saturday because that’s when Oklahoma plays. Boomer Sooner!). I love football. It’s one of the manliest sports. For it is truly the sport closest to combat. Men strategize in their war room, don their armor, and line up against their opponent. Victory is measured in territory gained, in how well one unit outmaneuvers the other. The game involves brute strength and keen physicality; it is a hand to hand, helmet to helmet fight, one man struggling against another. And yet at the same time, finesse, agility, and brilliant strategy are requisites for success and a team lives or dies solely on how well they work together as a team, as a unit.

Playing football in high school helped shape me into the man I am today. As I struggled through another practice in 100 degree heat and sweated through two-a-day practices, I learned to work hard and not quit. I learned that pain is often the only pathway to excellence. At the end of the game, when the scoreboard’s numbers were not as I had wished, I learned how to bounce back from failure and dedicate myself to being better the next time around. I experienced the awesome power of a group of men, striving together for the same goal. The friendships I made while playing football will last a lifetime.

The lessons of all sports carry over from the actual arena to the playing field of life. Rich is the man who, if only for a short time, feels the glory his body in peak condition, the bond of brothers, the sweet joy of victory and the agony of defeat. While the memories of such a time fade as a man grows older, the wisdom he gleans from the experience will echo throughout his life.

So in honor of the opening of the football season, and the great lessons all men can learn from this great game, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most inspiring football locker room speeches from both film and real life. The speeches we chose are not only inspiring for men about to hit the field, they’re motivating for those men who wish to walk out the door each day to school or work, ready to take on the world. Success in football requires heart, pride, and teamwork. Success in life requires the same.

Friday Night Lights

If you played football in high school, you can’t help but think about the young men you played next to while watching this clip. Coach Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton) explains to his players what “being perfect” really means. It’s not about the score at the end of the game. It’s about looking your teammate in the eye and being able to say you did all you could. I can’t help but get a little teary eyed when the players say the Lord’s Prayer. My team in high school did the same thing and it instantly transports me back to that locker room in Edmond, OK.

I Am a Champion

Through a series of manly affirmations, this coach pumps the hell out of his players. How can you not get psyched to take down the competition with lines like these:

“I will rip the heart out of my enemy and leave it bleeding on the ground because he cannot stop me.”

Any Given Sunday

Warning: Some adult language

Life, like football, is a game of inches. Coach Tony D’Amato (Al Pacino) captures that analogy perfectly in this speech. An inch can make the difference between victory or defeat. And if you want to succeed in football or life, you have to fight for every inch. Never take anything for granted. Always keep fighting, even when everything seems stacked against you.

Knute Rockne

We’re big fans of Knute Rockne. And how can you not be? As a player he revolutionized the game with the forward pass and as a coach he became almost unstoppable. This is an actual clip from Knute Rockne’s famous “Inside ’em and Outside ’em” speech. In this locker room pep talk, Knute rouses his players with his machine gun delivery and excited gestures. The speech was so popular back in the day that young men bought recordings of it by the thousands and listened to it over and over, getting pumped to charge onto the playing field of life.

Remember the Titans

Okay, so technically this isn’t a locker room speech, but it’s still inspiring. It’s 1971, and Coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) has the onerous task of bringing together a team of black and white high school students in Virginia. The team isn’t gelling. So, in a stroke of pure rhetorical genius, Coach Boone takes his men on a jog to Gettysburg. In a stirring and solemn bit of oratory, he teaches his men a little about football, and a lot about life.

What would you do if you knew that this day would be your last day? How would you live? If you’re like me, you’d go balls out to make it the best damn day of your life. This coach revs his players up telling them to to play each play as if it was their final one on the field. We can all take a cue from this. Approach what you do in life as if it would be the last time you do it. Kiss your wife like it would be the last time. Play with your kids like it would be the last time. You never know. That kiss and playtime could be your last.

Rudy, Fortune The Facilities Manager

Sometimes we need an honest mentor to give us some perspective on ourselves. Rudy (Sean Austin) spent two years trying to get on the dress team of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. When it didn’t happen, he decides to quit. Thankfully, facilities manager Fortune (Charles S. Dutton) knocks some sense into Rudy and tells him what’s what. Quitting will only bring regret, he tells him. You gotta stay in it, even when things get tough, even when the odds are against you.

Georgia Tech Pre-Game Speech, Derrick Moore, Georgia Tech Chaplin

It’s 2007, and Georgia Tech is in South Bend to take on the Irish in their house. They definitely need to get fired up. Luckily they have this guy, Derrick Moore, to light a fire under ’em. Moore is pure intensity. He’s the team chaplain (who knew that team’s had one?) and brings an evangelical fervor to his oratory. The best part of the speech is when he quotes the words of his middle school teacher:

“We’re going to fight until we can’t fight no more. Going to lie down and bleed awhile. Going to get up; fight some more.”

Amen, brother. That’s how you win. Tenacity.

If you enjoyed the speech, check out player Tashard Choice quoting it before a game in which GA Tech goes on to upset Clemson. It’ll get you pumped.

The Art of the Pre-Game Talk

What do your teammates really need from you?

If you have already seen it, I apologize for making you relive it. If you haven’t, below is a video of Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston’s attempt to get his teammates ready to play.

That’s bad. All-time bad. But it got me thinking, what constitutes a good, even great, pre-game pump up talk? For athletes in leadership positions on their teams who truly want to crush their next pre-game talk, what do they need to do?

WHAT’S THE POINT?

We need to start with this question because it is useless to think through the steps if you have no idea where you want those steps to lead you. With that said, it is not terribly difficult to determine the ultimate purpose of a pre-game talk.

A pre-game talk’s primary goal is to get your teammates mentally ready for the start of the competition.

The only obstacle that exists for some of your teammates to perform to the level they are capable is themselves. So, what do you need to do to give the greatest pre-game speech of all time, a speech that will turn mental midgets into giants, a speech that will turn your tentative turtle teammates into fire breathing dragons?

Consider the following:

REMEMBER WHAT SPORT YOU PLAY

This is important. Football players get hyped up much differently than golfers. Those two sports probably represent both ends of the pendulum of hype and focus. When preparing your speech, remember to make the tone and energy appropriate to the sport you play. Speaking of tone…

DETERMINE YOUR TONE BEFOREHAND

There are many different emotions you can muster up. Don’t feel like you need to tap into all of them. Choose one that fits your personality and master it. If you try to be someone you’re not, your teammates will know and the effectiveness will be lost. Here are some “tone” options.

Psycho scream

Tebow bleeds energy and enthusiasm on the field. Away from the field he is calm, level headed. What makes this so effective is that he takes his energy from the field and carries it into the locker room.

Calm and confidence

The Herb Brooks locker room speech from Miracle is a classic. There is no panic in his voice—just a calm confidence. You can see in the player’s eyes that this is what they need in this moment. They’re worried and intimidated. Brooks does not counter that by yelling and getting them pumped. He meets them where they are at with his calm demeanor.

This is my favorite motivation speech—maybe of all time. For one, this is not a scene from a movie. This is real life. And it is beautiful. Yes, the music in the background helps but what makes this great is Coach Stewart starts slow and gradually gets more and more intense. He is ready to take his team on a drive at 100 mph but he knows he needs to get them in the car and buckled up first. I dare you to watch this and not get goosebumps.

Sentimental

From the movie Rudy, the coach taps into the sentimental side of the athletes. Notre Dame is a historical football school, filled with pride. He doesn’t put the focus on hitting or bringing intensity to the other team, he places all the focus on his own squad, reminding them that the Seniors are playing their last game.

KNOW YOUR TEAMMATES

How do you know which tone to take? This should largely depend on the personality of your team as a whole, as well as certain individuals. Are your teammates insecure? If so, you probably want to remind them of their training and instill a calm confidence in them, not freak them out by yelling. Are they timid? You don’t need to be a comedian but feel the freedom to make the laugh. Loosen them up a bit! Do your teammates play better when they are hyped up? Then…GET THEM HYPED UP! Is your team prone to large momentum shifts? Remind them that when hardships come, to pick one another up and press on.

DON’T SLANDER YOUR RIVAL

Try to refrain from using this platform as an opportunity to point out all of the negative things about your opponent. If they have weaknesses that need to be exposed, great. But avoid broad, sweeping statements that focus on how much you don’t like them. Keep the focus on your team and what you do well. Confidence is a better predictor of success than hate or disdain.  Jonathan Fader, a sport psychologist, says that “One of the biggest predictors of success in athletics, and life in general, is confidence—the expectation that you will succeed.”  If you want to prep your team well, instill confidence in THEM. Let the other team worry about themselves.

DON’T GO TOO LONG

Keep it simple. Your job is to help free your teammates up mentally so that they perform at an optimal level. The longer you go and the more ideas you present, the more you will confuse your team. If you have a propensity to go a little long it is because you have not prepared well enough.

A simple way to force yourself into a shorter pre-game talk is to simply memorize your close out statement. A lot of times we error on the side of length because we want to land the plane well and we end up talking and talking until we feel like we nailed it. The longer you talk, the harder it is for the nail to be driven home. Athlete, know ahead of time how you want to close it out!

Being tasked with motivating your team before, or in the middle of a game is a privilege. Don’t wing it. As a staff friend of mine often says: “The separation is in the preparation.” Do yourself and your squad a favor by thinking it through ahead of time. Hopefully they respond with a performance worthy of the speech that led them into it!

Top 5 Locker Room Motivational Speeches

  • October 1, 2022
  • Chris Miele

best game day speeches

It’s half time of the big game, your team is losing, and the locker room is silent. Players are fiddling with their equipment, but there are no conversations happening. Everyone is looking around to see where the desire and motivation to come back and win will come from. Then suddenly, the locker room doors bust open, the head coach comes in and gathers everyone together.  He says a couple words. The next thing you know, everyone is on their feet ready to run through a wall to get the W! Congrats, you have fallen for a Motivational Locker Room Speech. After many years of watching sports movie after sports movie, here are my top 5 Locker Room Motivational Speeches!

best game day speeches

1.  Friday Night Lights

We start with a classic. This speech hits home as these players have two quarters left in their football careers. Coach Gaines says that perfection is not in the number of wins and losses in a season or the score at the end of the game, but how you do all of the little things every day, without giving up. Paying attention to how you treat yourself, your family and your friends is a life lesson that has stuck with me for years.

best game day speeches

2.  Coach Carter

Samuel L. Jackson is normally an angry, menacing character in his movies. Coach Carter was no different until his touching speech after their final loss. He dropped his scowl and was proud of his team after a loss. He told his team “What you achieved goes way beyond the win loss column or what will be written on the front page of the sports column. What you achieved is that ever-elusive victory within. Gentlemen, I am so proud of you.” Coach Carter is a must watch!

3.  Moneyball

Brad Pitt portrayed Billy Beane, the General Manager for the Oakland As, in this 2002 blockbuster. At the time, Oakland was using a computer-generated approach to acquiring players instead of spending big money. In this speech titled “Is Losing Fun?,” Brad Pitt finds his team having a good time in the locker after a big loss. This speech reminds us that losing should not be celebrated and instead learned from. However, this speech motivates you to do and be better as team. From this point on, the team came together and started to win.

best game day speeches

This speech is only about 46 seconds long, but that is all it takes. This speech will get you fired up and ready to take down any opponent in a short amount of time. I am sure you all have heard it before but the famous quote from this speech is, “Remember, no one, and I mean no one, comes into our house and pushes us around.” I don’t know about you, but that gets me fired up!

best game day speeches

5. Miracle On Ice

Coach Brook’s speech is before the U.S.A Hockey team plays the Soviet Union for the Gold Medal at the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980. “Great moments are born from great opportunity” is how the speech begins. How could you not hear that and feel excitement? The speech builds, but Coach Brooks doesn’t go over the top with it. He stays calm, which builds even more trust and excitement that what is about to happen is going to change the world. The speech closes with, “This is your time, now go out there and take it!” Chills!

Honorable mention –  D2: The Mighty Ducks  – Always Remember, Ducks Fly Together. I had to include this as this is one of my most memorable locker room speeches from my childhood. Team USA is down at half time of the Junior Goodwill Games against the bigger, stronger, faster Iceland team. Right before halftime, the USA team was falling for the antics of the Iceland team. Coach Bombay comes in at half time and reminds his team of where they are from and that they must stick together like a flock of ducks to win. Ducks Fly Together!

The overriding theme in all these speeches and movies is that winning comes from within. Each of these coaches pulls on the emotions of their players, and us at home, and reminds them that whatever happens on the field, court or ice that winning in life and sports begins with doing the small details to perfection, letting losses shape how you win, and always working together towards a common goal. Now let’s go run through a wall! LET’S GO!

Match your intensity to the energy you want them to take onto the court.

Have a Clear Outline

Bullet point your key ideas, stories, and call to action so you hit all your marks.

With the stage set, it’s time deliver a rousing speech that will echo off the rafters!

How to Deliver an Effective Pre-Game Speech

Here are some key tips for delivering your pump up speech powerfully:

  • Project your voice and enunciate clearly.
  • Use dramatic pauses for effect.
  • Establish eye contact and connect with each player.
  • Vary your tone, speed and inflection for emphasis.
  • Use their names when possible to personalize your message.
  • Repeat key phrases for maximum impact.
  • Use natural humor and smiles when appropriate to build rapport.
  • Hand out reminders like wristbands or tokens with your rallying cry.
  • Start off with energy and end even stronger.
  • Stick the landing! Your final call to action should be uncompromising and memorable. Sell it with passion and conviction.

Leave no doubt in their minds that victory awaits if they seize this moment to play unified, focused and with maximum heart and hustle. Let’s look at some examples of what not to do.

Examples of Poor Pre-Game Speeches

Learning what to avoid is also helpful, so here are some pre-game speeches that miss the mark:

  • Overly complex  – Too many points without focus makes your message get lost.
  • Too long  – Don’t burn precious energy with an overly long sermon. Keep things tight.
  • Spur of the moment  – Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. Have your key points ready.
  • Too emotional  – There’s a fine line between fired up and out of control. Keep perspective.
  • Panic inducing  – Excessive focus on the stakes can paralyze players. Keep it upbeat.
  • Meandering  – Rambling without a clear structure or purpose just confuses players.
  • Defeatist  – Don’t batter their confidence before the game even starts!

While these fall flat, your speech will soar by avoiding these pitfalls. Let’s recap what not to do.

The Ultimate Guide to Giving an Epic Pre-Game Basketball Speech

Common Pre-Game Speech Mistakes to Avoid

Steer clear of these common errors to ensure your speech hits the right notes:

  • Too long, complex or disorganized.
  • Forgetting your specific audience and game situation.
  • Focusing on the opposition instead of your own team’s strengths.
  • Including too many technical details about scheme and strategy.
  • Overly focusing on past failures or shortcomings. Dwelling on the negative saps motivation and confidence.
  • Getting overly emotional like screaming or losing composure. Channel that passion effectively.
  • Leaving the team flat rather than fired up with an unambiguous call to action.

Avoid these mistakes, and your speech will have your team’s blood pumping and raring for tip-off!

An epic pre-game speech that gets your team focused, fired up, and ready to empty their full effort into the battle ahead can be a decisive factor in sports. Follow the guidance in this article to craft and deliver pump up speeches that hit all the right notes for your squad.

Tailor your message, keep it simple and positive, tell inspiring stories, and end with a clear, passionate call to action. Harness the power of your words to unlock your team’s true potential when it matters most.

This is your time. Have faith in yourself and your players. Now go out there and give that speech everything you’ve got! Your team is counting on you to set the stage for victory. You’ve got this coach! Let’s go out and win this one together!

8 Inspirational Football Locker Room Speeches

image-asset (48)

The bagpipes in the background of this speech only up the manly vigor quotient

And now, just for the heck of it, drop the name of the college team you’ll be cheering on this season in the comments. Show your team pride!

The Greatest Motivational Speeches Of All-Time

best game day speeches

With the Sweet 16 kicking off tonight, there’s no better time than now to revisit one of our favorite posts from 2013! Below is a list of our favorite motivational speeches from the best sports movies. Not only do these coaches understand the preparation, strategy, and drills behind a great team — but they also understand how important it is to master emotions and get the team’s mind in the right place.

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t like an empowering, energizing, and all-around inspirational speech before the big game? A well-executed speech can focus your players, teammates, and coaches on the road ahead. But, above all, it gets the athlete’s head in the game, giving him or her the desire and willpower to make a serious difference out on the field, pitch, or court. However, that begs the question: who did it best?

CoachUp, of course, doesn’t shy away from these hard-hitting issues and we’ve put together a list of our favorite motivational speeches. Be careful, though, these may inspire you to grab a ball and get out there right afterwards!

5. “Pain Heals”  —  Shane Falco, The Replacements Keanu Reeves has received loads of criticism over his long acting career, but nobody can doubt his moving performance in 2000’s The Replacements . Short and sweet, Shane Falco, the team’s washed up quarterback, gets right to the point in order to motivate his teammates before the biggest play of the game.

In fact, Falco actually admits to giving a bit of an anti-motivational speech when he says: “I wish I could say something classy and inspirational — but that’s not our style.” Unfortunately for too-cool-Keanu, he ends up delivering a killer line just a few moments later —  Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory lasts forever!

4.   “This is your time, now go out there and take it!”   — Herb Brooks, Miracle This is just some good, old fashioned advice that Brooks gives to his players before the Gold Medal game against the Soviets. If you want something, you’re going to have to go out and take it yourself. Nobody is willingly going to give you the game, the win, or the glory — want it? Go get it. And, ultimately, that’s what Brooks says here — nothing fancy, wordy, or mystical — just the truth.

3.   “It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward!” — Rocky, Rocky Balboa Most everybody will be familiar with Rocky’s epic speech to his son, but if you aren’t, try listening to this on repeat for a couple hours. Rocky reminds his son that life is tough, but you can’t let it win. Most importantly, if you want something, you’ve got to believe in yourself and work hard to get it. Try not to get caught up in what other people think and do whatever it takes for you achieve your goals. That’s it, it’s really that simple.

2.  “You don’t have to prove nothin’ to nobody but yourself!”   — Fortune, Rudy This is a particularly moving speech for a number of reasons — especially given its context for the student-athlete, even today! Of course, this speech reminds Rudy that he’s already defied the odds by training each and every day to earn his spot on the field. Rudy, “five-foot nothin’,” found something he wanted and worked his butt off until he got it. Athletes these days can get obsessed with touchdowns, dunks, and home runs, but for those that are lucky enough to attend school for their talents, make sure to take the good with the bad. Being a well-rounded person is just as important as being an elite athlete — so don’t take your education for granted!

1. “I don’t care what the scoreboard says at the end of the game, in my book, we’ll be winners!” — Norman Dale, Hoosiers Perhaps one the greatest motivational speech in one of the greatest sports movies of all-time, Coach Norman Dale begs his team to ignore everything going against them. Forget the crowd, forget their skill, forget it all, none of that matters, Dale says. Instead, he gets Hickory High to focus on on the fundamentals, promising that if his team plays the way he knows they can, they’ll be winners no matter who’s up at the final whistle.

In today’s community, we often deal with coaches that have a win-at-all-costs mantra, those who put aside the feelings of their athletes in an attempt to win glory for themselves. However, it’s refreshing, even after all these years, to see Coach Dale focus on the right stuff. Remember, being a winner doesn’t depend on wins and losses!

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn’t Fire You Up.. Check Your Pulse

Sports and epic speeches seem to go hand in hand. If you need a hit of motivation scroll down.

One of the most motivational speeches is Al Pacino from Any Given Sunday but another epic pep talk is the pre game speech delivered by Kurt Russell in Miracle.

The film is based on the 1980 hockey Olympics match between the unbeatable  Soviet Union and the huge underdogs the United States.

In the film, the United States was greatly outnumbered in size and experience.

The task before them seemed impossible.

But Kurt Russell, playing the US coach Herb Brooks, delivers the incredible miracle speech to motivate his team.

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn’t Fire You Up 🔥 Check Your Pulse

Here are three lessons you can take from the iconic speech.

When It’s Your Time, Be Ready | Epic Pre Game Speech

As Herb Brooks said, “Great moments are born from great opportunity.” The best moments in sports and life always happen when a moment is seized.

Whether it’s Tom Brady stepping up to win another Super Bowl or Michael Jordan making so many clutch shots for game winners.

The reasons these moments were made was becuase they made them happen. Without hard work, consistency and dedication they would have never been able to perform on the biggest stages.

Ask yourself, are you putting in the work to set yourself up for big moments?

Are you doing the little things, day in and day out, to get the chance to shine when your opportunity arrives?

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn't Fire You Up 🔥 Check Your Pulse

Quit Worrying About the Odds | Epic Pre Game Speech

As Kurt Russell said in the film, “If we played them 10 times they would win nine. But not this game. Not tonight.” If you are trying to achieve something great in your life, chances are the odds are stacked against you.

Whether you’re trying to become a professional athlete, build an epic business or win a marathon, the odds are most likely against you. That’s ok, if it was easy everyone would do it!

The problem is that so many people see the odds and don’t even try. Remember, the biggest failure in life is not trying.

When the odds are against you think to yourself how great it will feel when you defy all expectations. Don’t forget, the United States went on to complete the ultimate victory despite the odds being stacked against them.

No one in the world believed it was possible. They believed .

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn't Fire You Up 🔥 Check Your Pulse

Always Believe in Yourself | Epic Pre Game Speech

Do you believe in yourself with 100% confidence? As Kurt Russell said to close the speech in Miracle, “Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.”

He gave them these final words before the Olympians took the ice. These words helped them believe in themselves.

You have to have to have 100% belief in yourself or else you’ll never make it happen. Don’t worry about people telling you that you’re not good enough, smart enough or talented enough.

Choose to believe in yourself.

If you haven’t seen the movie Miracle I highly recommend it as the movie is incredibly inspirational. Remember, miracles exist but you have to put in the work to make them happen.

If you aren’t willing to do the work when no one is watching you’ll never get your chance to be a champion.

10 Epic Sports Pep Talks to Motivate Your Team [Videos]

Meghan Lockwood

Updated: February 01, 2017

Published: June 06, 2013

The first game my father ever played in professional baseball, the coach walked him to the mound, slapped him on the back, and said, “We have two men on base -- you get them out, I won’t put you back on a plane tonight. Throw the ball. Throw hard, Chip.”

best game day speeches

He was 18 years old. His name is Skip. Possibly the least motivating speech EVER.

I've personally never experienced that level of pressure, but as an athlete all my life, I've always been fascinated by how people pump themselves up for their next big challenge. Sitting next to my bed in the morning is the quote from Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

I believe in that. Really. In my little universe, that's how I think about creating great content that stands the test of time. It's something that you get up every day and just ... do.

But that kind of commitment isn't always easy. While I love creating something for a living, just like everyone else, sometimes I get writer’s block . Sometimes my team falls behind our goals. Sometimes I work long hours. If anything like that happens to you (come on -- don't deny it), I've put together a compilation of the best sports pep talks ever -- videos I turn to when I need a little pick-me-up to inspire different parts of my job.

When it’s the middle of the month and we don’t have enough leads ...

Al Pacino's epic speech in Any Given Sunday : "We can climb our way outta hell ... one inch at a time." (0:47)  Note: This video contains strong language.

When I'm trying to plan a new A/B test variation ...

From Friday Night Lights : "To me, being perfect is not about that scoreboard out there. It's about you and your relationship with yourself ... It's about being able to look your friends in the eye, and know that you didn't let them down because you told them the truth." (0:27)

When I'm trying to convince myself to copy edit my work ...

From Vince Lombardi: "You don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time ... I've never known a man worth his salt who deep down in his heart didn't appreciate the grind and the discipline." (0:16)

When I try to convince my team we should spend the time to create lovable content ...

From Hoosiers : "Focus on the fundamentals that we've gone over time and time again ... If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential, to be the best that you can be, I don't care what the scoreboard says at the end of the game. In my book, we're gonna be winners!" (0:49)

When I'm getting ready to write a new, big-hit blog post ...

Knute Rockney: "Don’t forget, today is the day that we are going to win." (1:58)

When a new competitor enters our market -- and they make me nervous ...

From the movie, Miracle :"Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here, tonight. One game. If we played 'em 10 times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with 'em. Tonight, we stay with 'em, and we shut them down because we can!" (0:22)

When I'm working on a late night project with the rest of my team ...

From the great Mighty Ducks , the ultimate kiddie hockey movie, "Ducks fly together! ... And when everyone says it can't be done .. ducks fly together." (Oh it's only 58-seconds long. Just watch the whole thing. It's totally worth it.)

When I'm editing a partner's blog post ...

After Assistant Coach Yoast from Remember the Titans decides to do the right thing, he announces to his team, "You want to act like a star, you better give me a star effort." (1:41)

When my new ebook just isn't generating a good conversion rate ...

There are some days when no one seems to be downloading your work. Those days, don't you just want to yell, "Are you not entertained?!" like Russell Crowe did in Gladiator ?

When I'm just having an overall bad month ...

And finally, my favorite sports video clip EVER about the unlikely hero, Jason McElway, who is the autistic team water boy who came off his high school basketball bench and changed his fate -- and makes me realize that sometimes it's okay to be a little different ...

Despite the lackluster speech, my aforementioned dad managed to get out of that inning, make the team, and manage a respectable career . But I always wonder what would've happened if his coach had been a bit more like the inspirational leaders above.

How to Give a Speech Before a Championship Game

No matter what your sport or activity, a championship game can be an emotionally charged experience for participants. Some may feel excited and energized, while others may be anxious and nervous. [1] X Research source It's important that players feel both relaxed and prepared before the game begins. A good pre-game speech should adequately prepare players for what they are about to experience and give them the motivation they need to achieve victory.

Preparing the Content of Your Speech

Step 1 Prepare your speech in advance.

  • To pose a rhetorical question, you might say, “Are you ready to push yourself harder than you ever have before?”
  • To use a powerful quote, you could say, “A man named Ferdinand Foch once said, ‘The will to conquer is the first condition of victory.’”
  • An brief story might look like this: “Rudy Ruettiger was a kid who no one gave a chance at anything in his life. He fought for everything he got. Because he never gave up, he achieved his dream of playing football for Notre Dame and helped lead his team to victory.”

Step 4 Only include up to 3 points of strategic or instructional information in your speech.

  • For example, you could focus on a technique from practice by saying, “Remember to drop your shoulder before you swing.”
  • To point out key elements of the opponent's strategy, you might say, “This team favors their running game over their passing game. Keep an eye on the running backs.”

Step 5 Build players’ self-confidence.

  • Don’t dwell on negative faults like this: “You’re too heavy on your feet when you put your weight in your heels. Don’t do that on the field.”
  • Instead, use positive language to remind players of good form: “Stay on your toes, like we’ve been doing in practice. Remember how quickly you can pivot when you’re on your toes.”

Step 6 Close with a call to action.

  • “Now let’s go out there and bring home this trophy!”
  • “Show them that you’re the team to beat!”

Adding Emotional Impact

Step 1 Use words that are clear and direct.

  • Other ideas for props include bringing in a sledgehammer to smash the competition, a lasso to pull the team together, or glasses with blinders to focus attention on the competitor facing them.

Step 5 Use call-and-response moments to actively involve players in your speech.

  • Ask questions with obvious answers: “Who are we going to beat today?” or “How bad do you want this championship title?”
  • Give players the appropriate response by setting up a call and response: “When I say ‘go,’ you say ‘win’! Go!” And they respond, “Win!” Repeat the same call and response several times to build momentum and excitement.

Step 6 Practice your speech several times before the championship game.

Developing a Dynamic Delivery for Your Speech

Step 1 Make eye contact with the players as you deliver your speech.

Expert Q&A

  • Practice your speech until you are comfortable reciting it with passion and without looking at your notes. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Stay positive in your language and in your demeanor. Keep your head up and look your players in the eyes while you’re delivering your speech. Smile when appropriate. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Believe that the players can win the championship game. If you don’t honestly believe they are going to win, the players are going to be able to tell you don’t have faith in them. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

From what type of music do you get that adrenaline rush? If you like Electronic Dance music, this playlist might be just for you. These songs give you a lot of energy, which you can us in the game!

We also have a playlist for the Pop lovers! This playlist has a few ‘oldies’ to go nuts to with your teammates. This will ensure a great vibe in the locker room! Time to sing along!

The music often plays from a big speaker in the locker room, so the whole team can enjoy it. It can be pretty difficult to select songs that everyone likes, because everybody has a different tast in music. The playlist below has something for everybody!

The next list is not for everybody, but it can be a real life saver. Some athletes get nervous before a game and need to calm down instead of hyped up. You can’t listen to a playlist that is full of adrenaline. This playlist might be something for you if you want to calm and get focussed.

The words need to connect with you and motivate you. If you think you found a speech, listen to every single word the person is saying to let the message come across. Below you can find one of our favourite speeches. Time to get hyped!

With a motivational speech, some lines get repeated several times. This quote will stick. You can repeat it in your thoughts, before the first whistle of the game blows. This quote can help you focus and motivate you. The speech “Make It Count” is a perfect example of that.

The 8 greatest post game speeches of all time, share this article.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney put together one of the greatest post game speeches in recent memory on Saturday night. Swinney praised his team for “bringing their own guts to the game” against Notre Dame. The Tigers earned a huge win over the Fighting Irish, and Swinney noted that while he could provide his players with many things, he could not give them heart or guts. It was a very passionate and moving sight to behold and it makes you wonder why “Bring Your Own Guts” hasn’t become a t-shirt yet.

“BYOG” will likely go down as one of the great post game speeches in sports history, but how does it compare to this TK moment?

8. “I love this kid.”

Georgia State coach Ron Hunter couldn’t stop the emotion of his team’s Cinderella run in the NCAA tournament from getting the best of him at the podium after his team lost to Xavier. With his son RJ by his side, Hunter gave one of the most memorable monologues in tournament history.

7. “They are who we thought they were.”

Few can forget Dennis Green’s tirade after his Arizona Cardinals fell to the Chicago Bears in 2006. What is often lost is how calm Green begins his answer before the realization of what has happened gets the best of him.

6. Bob Knight is a fortuneteller.

Bob Knight was a troll before people knew you called them trolls.

5. “I’m a [expletive] soldier.”

Kellen Winslow refused to apologize for his comments in the heat of the moment in 2004 when he referred to himself as a “[expletive] soldier.” Shortly thereafter, he released a statement apologizing for the incident which I’m sure he wrote himself.

4. “You can do anything!”

May we all one day possess the zeal for life that Apollos Hester did in this moment.

3. “Anything is possible.”

Garnett beats out the first four entries on our list purely based on brevity.

2. Shaq doesn’t give a [expletive] about being on live.

(Warning: Video contains profanity)

Shaquille O’Neal had some thoughts about referees that he wanted everyone to hear.

1. “I’m a man. I’m 40.”

In 2007, Mike Gundy endeared himself to the Oklahoma State faithful and everyone else for that matter with this incredible post game speech. Gundy is now pushing 50, but he remains a man, if not *the* man at Oklahoma State.

Fortnite: How to Get the Band Flair Pack for Free

Wow: the war within - all skyriding glyph locations in isle of dorn, harry potter: quidditch champions has rewards for hogwarts legacy players.

Video games often blend fun with commentary. There are many games out there that have a character tell a riveting speech, one that makes the player think and ponder the reality of the person speaking the powerful words. Fictional, or not, the words spoken by characters can truly be both inspiring or upsetting.

RELATED: RPGs With The Most Romance Options

There is a great deal of iconic video game characters that give speeches , either to the player, or their crew. Some are entirely compelling and make the player forget that they are holding a controller. What can make these speeches harder to listen to, is when a boss fight is brewing. So, which riveting speeches in video games can be considered iconic?

10 The Healthy Human Mind (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2)

captain price smoking a cigar

As the penultimate mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ’s campaign, “ Just Like Old Times ” features a grandiose speech from Captain John Price. As his ally, Soap, asks for Price’s input, he is met with silence, until Price begins to audibly philosophize on death.

RELATED: Why Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Won't Feature Zombies

Price’s speech is cold and somewhat morbid. It’s a great look into his mind and his goal. “ We will. Kill him .” That’s it, that is the mission. Price will forever be a soldier, and his speech to Soap teaches him a valuable lesson on doing whatever it takes to make sure true history survives.

9 More Powerful Than Any Weapon (Mass Effect 3)

sheperd and his crew from mass effect 3

As the climax in Mass Effect 3 ramps up, Commander Shepard performs their final speech to their Comrades . The Mass Effect games have held some great speeches, thanks to Commander Shepard’s charisma and intellect. Yet, there’s something poignant about their final speech.

Shepherd rallies their friends and comrades-in-arms, and the player can choose what Shepherd says to their friends. It makes the speaker feel that much more personal, and that much more emotional; knowing how close the player has become with their crew, before entering perhaps the final battle as Commander Shepard, and the lats look of their friends.

8 Dear Humanity (Halo 2)

sergeant avery johnson

The fourth campaign mission of Halo 2 features Master Chief on Old Mombasa, Earth, with his fellow Marine soldiers. The introduction cutscene of this mission, “ Outskirts ”, has the characters ponder on the mystery behind the message they received, which repeats “Regret, Regret” in a loop.

The intensely charismatic Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson wastes no time in deciding on what “ regret ” means. His speech is extremely short but gets the point across. He talks of how the aliens will regret coming to Earth. It’s funny, and Sergeant Johnson rallies his troops with one large “ oorah !”

7 Free To Follow Our Own Path (Assassin’s Creed 2)

ezio auditore giving a speech

A compelling speech, from one of gaming’s most iconic characters, and most iconic assassins . Assassin’s Creed 2 features Ezio Auditore giving a speech to the Italian people about the profound identity of individuals, the freedom of choice, and forging one’s path.

RELATED: Assassin's Creed: Games With The Best Cover Art, Ranked

Ezio proves with this speech just how wise and strong he is. It’s a beautiful speech and one that sums up Ezio’s character growth perfectly. From a rebellious youth to one of the bravest, and greatest leaders of the new Assassin order. There’s a reason why Ezio Auditore is so well remembered, even after the conclusion of his story.

6 There Is Light In The Darkness (Fallout: New Vegas)

joshua graham tinkering with a pistol

Fallout is a franchise that is no stranger to the weird, the wonderful, and the compelling. Fallout: New Vegas provides fans of the Fallout franchise with a plethora of interesting characters. Characters that make the player debate their choices for a while.

One character is Joshua Graham, introduced in the Honest Hearts DLC. Toward the end of the DLC, Joshua offers a glimmer of hope, even after the horrific circumstance of his being and location . This is because Joshua has been burned to near death. Joshua speaks of religion and the importance of family. It’s a grand speech.

5 My Fellow Americans (Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus)

wyatt speech on TV from the end of wolfenstein 2

Those that chose the Wyatt timeline are given a riveting speech in the genre-defining franchise sequel, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus . At the end of the game, Wyatt provides those watching live television with a great speech. After the victory of the Nazis in an alternate timeline, Americans were left on their knees.

Wyatt gives warnings to the Nazi regime, as a hopeful song softly strums in the background. Wyatt’s passion can be felt through the television screen, and it’s entirely infectious, patriot, and in search of the liberty that belongs to a free country, and a free people.

4 I’m Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain)

big boss on a motorbike smoking a cigar

As gunfire and explosions rage across Outer Haven, Big Boss takes one last look at himself in the mirror before heading off to the latest, and potentially last, confrontation, in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain . It’s here, that Big Boss remembers all those years ago, and discovers “ The Man Who Sold The World ”.

“Venom” Snake listens to a recording from Big Boss, who tells “Venom” who he is. “ I’m Big Boss, and you are too. ” Big Boss is so inspirational , and grand, that a man willingly changed his entire identity to reforge the laws of the world. It’s epic and perfectly wraps up the Metal Gear saga.

3 Vorkuta Burns (Call of Duty: Black Ops)

viktor reznov in vorkuta prison

The second campaign mission in Call of Duty: Black Ops follows Alex Mason and Viktor Reznov starting an uprising to escape Vorkuta, the brutal Soviet Labor Camp in Northern Russia. As the men rally to a radio tower, Reznov delivers a powerful speech to help invigorate the men escaping, as it echoes across the labor camp.

His speech is nothing short of riveting, and it rallies even the harshest critics to Reznov’s side. He speaks of war, the exploitation of young men for their country, and how it is now their time for victory. The speech is the perfect call to action, as the imprisoned of Vorkuta seek death over enslavement, even though, a Thundergun easter egg would have helped too.

2 I Fight (The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim)

ulfric stormcloak angry in winterhold

There is a uniqueness to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim for its story. Not only does the player embark on the journey of the Dragonborn, to fight the evil Alduin the World-Eater, but they are also faced with the decision of war. The player can embark on either side, the Imperials, or the Stormcloaks.

The leader of the Stormcloaks is Ulfric Stormcloak, the Jarl of Windhelm. The civil war in Skyrim is over the Nords and their rights to their freedoms and right to beliefs. He gives a powerful speech on why he fights, and even if the player opposes Ulfric’s rule, they cannot fault his dedication.

1 Life’s End (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)

the boss' final speech in mgs 3

Hideo Kojima’s creative genius has no end, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is no exception. When The Boss betrays Naked Snake, he ventures through the game in wondering why she would betray her country, and him in particular.

At the final confrontation, The Boss provides Snake with a great speech. It’s a one-sided conversation in which Snake just listens, and is enthralled by her words. It’s one of the saddest scenes in the franchise. His love for his mentor is strong, and The Boss is encapsulating, and beautifully tragic. She’s one of the greatest characters in Metal Gear , and her character had a domino effect on the entire franchise.

Commentary: This medium-length speech strikes a balance between humor and sentiment, making it suitable for a variety of weddings. The best man shares personal anecdotes and observations about the couple while offering heartfelt advice for their future together.

Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, it is my great honor to stand before you today as [Groom’s Name]’s best man. When [Groom’s Name] asked me to take on this role, I was both thrilled and terrified. Thrilled because I knew it would be an incredible honor to stand by his side on one of the most important days of his life, and terrified because I realized I would have to give a speech in front of all of you.

But as I stand here today, looking at the love and happiness radiating from [Groom’s Name] and [Bride’s Name], I am reminded of why we are all gathered here. This is a celebration of two incredible individuals who have found their perfect match in each other.

[Groom’s Name], you have been my best friend for as long as I can remember. We’ve shared countless memories together, from the silly antics of our childhood to the more serious moments of adulthood. Through it all, your unwavering loyalty, infectious laughter, and kind heart have been a constant source of inspiration and support.

Watching the two of you together is like witnessing a real-life fairy tale. Your love for each other is a testament to the power of true partnership and the beauty of finding your other half.

As you begin this new chapter in your lives, I want to offer a few pieces of advice. First, never stop laughing together. Life can be full of ups and downs, but laughter has the power to lighten even the heaviest of burdens. Second, always make time for each other. In the busy rush of daily life, it can be easy to let the little things slip by, but it’s the small moments of connection that will keep your love strong. Finally, never forget the love that brought you together. Through the years, your love will grow and change, but the foundation of your relationship will always remain the same.

[Groom’s Name] and [Bride’s Name], your love story is one for the ages. It has been an honor to watch your relationship blossom and grow, and I know that your future together will be filled with endless love, laughter, and adventure.

It’s ideal for weddings where a more heartfelt and sentimental tone is appropriate, and the best man has a close bond with both the bride and groom.

[Short Speech (300 words)]

Good evening everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m John, and I’ve had the privilege of being Mike’s best friend for the past 15 years.

Mike and I met in college, where we quickly bonded over our shared love of terrible puns and late-night pizza runs. From the moment we met, I knew Mike was someone special – someone loyal, kind, and always ready with a joke to lighten the mood.

Over the years, I’ve watched Mike grow and mature into the incredible man he is today. But what’s always stayed the same is his huge heart and his unwavering dedication to the people he loves. And there’s no one he loves more than his beautiful bride, Sarah.

From the first time Mike told me about Sarah, I could tell she was the one. The way his face lit up when he talked about her, the way he suddenly started ironing his shirts before their dates – it was clear that this was something special.

And seeing them together today, surrounded by the love and support of their family and friends, I know that they’re embarking on a truly incredible journey together.

Sarah, thank you for making Mike so happy, and for loving him as much as he loves you. I know that with you by his side, he can take on anything.

So let’s raise our glasses to Mike and Sarah – may your love for each other only grow stronger with each passing year. I wish you a lifetime of joy, laughter, and terrible puns together. Congratulations!

Commentary: This concise speech is perfect for a best man who wants to keep things brief while still conveying the essence of his friendship with the groom and expressing well wishes for the newlyweds. It’s suitable for weddings with time constraints or when the best man prefers a more succinct style.

[Medium-Length Speech (500 words)]

Good evening, everyone! I’m thrilled to be here tonight to celebrate the marriage of two of my favorite people, Jake and Emily.

Jake and I have been friends since we were kids, bonding over our mutual love of dinosaurs and our mutual fear of his older sister. We’ve been through a lot together over the years – countless sleepovers, failed science experiments, even a few ill-advised attempts at starting a band in high school. Through it all, Jake has been the best friend anyone could ask for – loyal, kind, and always up for an adventure.

But there was one adventure I was a little nervous about at first: the day Jake told me he had met the love of his life. I still remember him calling me after their first date, practically giddy with excitement. “John,” he said, “I think I’ve found my person.”

And from the moment I met Emily, I knew he was right. Emily, you are kind, intelligent, and unbelievably patient – which, as anyone who knows Jake can attest, is a very useful quality in a partner. But more than that, you bring out the best in Jake. You challenge him, you support him, and you love him unconditionally.

Over the past few years, I’ve watched your love story unfold, from your first date to your first apartment to the incredible moment when Jake got down on one knee and asked you to be his wife. And every step of the way, I’ve been in awe of the love and respect you have for each other.

So today, as you start this new chapter in your lives, I want to offer a few pieces of advice. First, never go to bed angry – unless it’s because you stayed up too late binge-watching your favorite show together. Second, always make time for date nights, even if it’s just ordering takeout and watching a movie on the couch. And finally, never forget how lucky you are to have found each other.

Jake and Emily, I couldn’t be happier for you both. You’re two of the most amazing people I know, and I know that your love will only continue to grow stronger with each passing year.

So let’s raise our glasses to the happy couple. Jake and Emily, may your marriage be filled with love, laughter, and plenty of dinosaur puns. I love you both so much. Congratulations!

Commentary: This medium-length speech provides a nice balance of humor, personal anecdotes, and heartfelt sentiments. It’s appropriate for most wedding occasions and allows the best man to share some fun stories while also expressing his genuine happiness for the couple.

[Lengthy Speech (1000+ words)]

Good evening, everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Chris, and I have the incredible honor of being the best man tonight.

Brian and I have been friends for as long as I can remember. Our moms were best friends in college, so we quite literally grew up together – from playdates in diapers to standing up here today in slightly more formal attire. Over the past 30 years, Brian has been my partner in crime, my confidant, and hands down the best friend I could ever ask for.

Growing up, Brian and I were inseparable. We spent countless hours exploring the woods behind our houses, building elaborate Lego cities, and getting into all sorts of mischief that I’m sure our parents would rather not know about. I still vividly remember the summer we decided to dig a hole to China in his backyard – we made it about three feet deep before his dad found out and made us fill it back in.

As we got older, our adventures evolved, but our bond only grew stronger. In high school, we navigated the thrills and heartbreaks of teenage life together, from Friday night football games to failed attempts at asking our crushes to prom. No matter what life threw our way, I always knew I had Brian by my side.

But it wasn’t until college that I realized just how lucky I was to have a friend like Brian. Our freshman year, I went through a really tough time – I was struggling in my classes, I had a hard time making friends, and I just felt completely lost. But Brian was there for me every step of the way. He stayed up late helping me study, he dragged me out of my dorm room to socialize, and he listened patiently whenever I needed to vent. Without his support, I genuinely don’t know if I would have made it through that first year.

And that’s the thing about Brian – he has an incredible capacity for empathy and compassion. He’s the type of person who will drop everything to help a friend in need, who always knows just the right thing to say to make you feel better. His kindness and generosity know no bounds.

So when Brian first told me about Rachel, I knew she had to be someone really special. The way he talked about her – the sparkle in his eye, the constant smile on his face – I had never seen him like that before. And from the moment I met Rachel, I understood why.

Rachel, you are truly one of a kind. Your intelligence, your humor, your unwavering dedication to the people you love – it’s no wonder Brian fell for you. But what truly sets you apart is your compassion. Like Brian, you have an incredible capacity for empathy and kindness. You’re always the first to offer a helping hand or a listening ear, and you have this amazing ability to make everyone around you feel valued and loved.

Watching the two of you together over the past few years has been nothing short of inspiring. The love and respect you have for each other, the way you support and challenge each other to be your best selves – it’s what every relationship should aspire to be. You bring out the best in each other, and I know that together, you can take on anything life throws your way.

So today, as you start your lives together as husband and wife, I want to offer a few words of wisdom. First and foremost, never take each other for granted. In the day-to-day chaos of life, it can be easy to forget to appreciate the little things – a kind word, a warm hug, a thoughtful gesture. But it’s those little things that make up the foundation of a strong marriage.

Second, always make time for each other. No matter how busy life gets, carve out moments to connect – whether it’s a weekly date night, a quick coffee break during a hectic workday, or even just a few minutes before bed to talk about your day. Those moments of connection will keep your relationship strong.

And finally, never forget how lucky you are to have found each other. True love like yours is rare and precious – cherish it, nurture it, and never take it for granted.

Brian, I’ve had the privilege of being by your side through all of life’s ups and downs. You’ve been my partner in crime, my confidant, my rock. And now, I have the incredible honor of standing by your side as you marry the love of your life. I couldn’t be happier for you both.

So let’s raise our glasses to Brian and Rachel – may your love for each other only grow stronger with each passing year. May you continue to challenge each other, support each other, and bring out the best in each other. And may your marriage be a shining example of what true partnership and unconditional love look like.

I love you both so much. Congratulations!

Commentary: This lengthy speech is ideal for a best man who has a very close, long-standing relationship with the groom and wants to share more in-depth stories and reflections. It’s suitable for weddings where a longer, more emotional speech would be appreciated, such as when the best man is a brother or lifelong friend of the groom.

Giving a best man speech is a significant responsibility, but it’s also an incredible opportunity to celebrate the love and happiness of the newlyweds.

By choosing the right tone, sharing meaningful stories, and speaking from the heart, you can create a speech that will be remembered for years to come.

Remember, the most important thing is to express your genuine feelings and well wishes for the couple.

Whether you opt for a short and sweet speech or a longer, more emotional tribute, your words will be cherished by the bride, groom, and all those in attendance.

So take a deep breath, raise your glass, and let your love and support for the happy couple shine through.

Cheers to a lifetime of love, laughter, and happily ever after!

Winston is starting against the Seattle Seahawks after Deshaun Watson was listed as a late scratch.

The players huddled next to Winston to hear his pregame message , many for the last time. Winston emphasized the finality of the preseason, reminding the players the preseason game against the Seahawks could be the last time the players wear a uniform and play for each other.
