Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined MRI and biomechanics research projects, and independently conduct and analyze experiments in the JOINT Laboratory of the Radiology Department.

Duties include*:

  • Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in the JOINT lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
  • Independently conduct experiments in the fields of MRI and biomechanics; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. Troubleshoot equipment as necessary.
  • Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.
  • Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related MRI and biomechanics research.
  • Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

*- Other duties may also be assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Biology.
  • Extensive knowledge of human anatomy.
  • Previous hands-on lab research work in the field of musculoskeletal MRI.
  • Experience with MR image interpretation and manipulation.
  • Experience with computer coding and statistical analysis.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
  • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.

High-paying hybrid remote job opportunities are on the rise

Fresh research shows that high-paying remote job opportunities are making a comeback—specifically with regards to hybrid remote arrangements.

At the beginning of the year, high-paying hybrid jobs—the roles that pay $250,000 or more—equated to just 1% of total jobs available, reveals the high-paying job platform Ladders in their latest report ; while by the second quarter of 2024, high-paying hybrid jobs yielding the same salary comprised nearly 3% of all listings, evidencing positive upward progress.

"It looks like companies that were mostly onsite before are now adopting hybrid setups to attract and retain top talent. They are finding a sweet spot with hybrid work which many believe offers the flexibility of remote work while preserving the collaborative and leadership benefits of being in the office," said John Mullinix, Ladders' director of growth marketing.

The same job board highlighted the following high-paying hybrid remote jobs as being the top roles in demand that pay $250,000+ or more on average, from their analysis of half a million job postings from April to June 2024:

  • We will train and enable you to invent the hardware and software technologies of next generation computing platforms.
  • We will encourage you to contribute in an environment that has the potential to directly impact product roadmaps and to help build our future products.
  • We will assign responsibilities that will enable product development and help improve their performance and efficiency.
  • Currently enrolled in a US based University into a PhD program majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • If you have knowledge / experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply -
  • C/C , Verilog HDL, Python, P4, ML frameworks, /C , Java, MATLAB, Go.
  • Research experience and publications in related areas (e.g., computing systems, networking, hardware/software co-design, machine learning).
  • FPGA or ASIC-based RTL design and verification, FPGA deployment and programming, FPGA based acceleration of cloud applications, programmable data plane, machine learning training on GPUs.
  • Distributed systems, data center networking, high performance computing, and distributed machine learning training.
  • ML frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.

The Company

Our digital platform delivers scalable and verifiable sexual reproductive health services for young people in 5 main markets in Sub Saharan Africa - Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa and Burkina Faso. As a Research Manager at Tiko, you'll be at the forefront of implementing Pathways, an innovative segmentation approach. Based in Nairobi, this vital role combines research acumen with strategic innovation, focusing on identifying and supporting vulnerable populations through advanced qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Your work will not only be pivotal to enhancing Tiko's internal programming but also contribute to global knowledge in public health strategies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • A pplying Pathways segmentation methods to identify key population groups and understand their unique needs through both qu alitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Conducting sophisticated statistical analyses and supplementary research to deepen our understanding of different population segments.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of existing and planned interventions in meeting the specific needs and desires of identified population segments.
  • Leading and executing rapid qualitative research, including focus groups, interviews, and ethnography, to gather in-depth insights into target populations.
  • Managing the prototyping phase, quickly iterating and refining innovative solutions based on research findings.
  • Ensuring research activities are conducted with rigor, within budget, and delivered on time.
  • Collaborating with the innovation team and Tiko staff to integrate research findings into our innovation processes seamlessly.
  • Communicating research insights and findings effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Producing diverse publications, such as academic papers, case studies, blog posts, and project reports, to disseminate our findings and methodologies.
  • Enhancing Tiko's internal capabilities by training staff in the quantitative and qualitative methods integral to the Pathways approach.

You are a dynamic researcher with a passion for improving the lives of vulnerable adolescents and young people. Your innovative mindset, combined with your expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research, enables you to uncover impactful insights. Your leadership skills shine in mentoring and inspiring teams, and you have a knack for transforming data into solutions that drive real-world change. Requirements:

  • A Master's degree (or higher) in Public Health, Social Work, Design, Behavioral Science, Medical Sociology, or a related field, with a preference for a Doctoral degree.
  • At least 7 years of experience working in health or development programs, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations. eYMgB3F DYVUbz
  • Experienced in designing and executing qualitative research including developing instruments, conducting interviews, analysis
  • Familiarity with quantitative research methods, including how to interpret and use findings. Ability to use statistical software for analysis.
  • A ‘design mindset' and experience with developing solutions to complex problems
  • A track record of writing academic publications, showcasing your ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
  • Proven ability in leading teams to successfully deliver on complex projects.
  • Experience in human-centered design and/or innovation is highly desirable.
  • Lived experience reflecting the populations served by Tiko is an asset.
  • Familiarity with using data for problem-solving in contexts like quality improvement.
  • You are currently based in Nairobi, Kenya (mandatory).

The rewards

At Tiko we believe in being open, also when it comes to salaries. The gross monthly salary bracket for this position is Ksh499,744 - Ksh749,616 in Kenya, plus benefits. We will offer you a salary in this bracket depending on your level of experience and how it relates to your future colleagues.
