Following tasks are related with performance of throwing any of Poké Balls when catching Pokémon .
Following tasks are related with battling in Gyms , Raid Battles , Trainer Battles or Team GO Rocket .
Following tasks are related with Hatching Pokémon Eggs , evolving or power-upping Pokémon, earning Candy with Buddy Pokémon and other basic game actions.
- If a Trainer encounters a Shiny Pokémon as a research reward, said Pokémon will remain shiny until the Trainer captures it. The Trainer is free to run away and re-encounter the Pokémon and it will always be shiny. [1]
- Upon collecting the reward (which grants the stamp), you can choose not to enter the encounter immediately, but if you tap the reward again, you will immediately be taken to the encounter without warning. However, if you don't have enough Poké Balls to catch it, you can exit and the reward will still be available later. The Pokémon is considered to have spawned when you first enter the encounter. Encounter tasks do not count towards the 3 task maximum once you have collected the stamp, even if you haven't captured the Pokémon.
- For Nice/Great Throw tasks, a higher tier Throw will count.
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , select Field Research tasks that could be difficult to finish from home are removed. [2] A list can be found here .

- Spin 3 PokéStops or Gyms reward - Doduo, Hisuian Growlithe, Slowpoke or Galarian Slowpoke
Field research are missions collected one at a time by spinning a PokéStop, and will involve finding certain creatures, engaging in battles and other activities.
Every day PokéStops will give you a new quest, and each type of quest can have one of many different rewards, from previously Raid-exclusive consumables such as TMs and Rare Candy and common items such as Poké Balls.
Examples of quest types include:
- Catch one or two specific Pokemon (such as 3x Pidgey or Murkrow)
- Catch specific Types (such as catch 10x Normal Type Pokemon)
- Catch Weather -boosted Types
- Hatch a certain number of Eggs
- Battle in a Gym a certain number of times
- Battle in a Raid a certain number of times
- Evolve a certain number of Pokemon
- Make a certain number of specific throws (such as Nice, Great or Excellent)
- Spin a certain number of PokeStops
Some of these quest rewards even give you the chance to catch a mystery Pokémon. There's nothing exclusive here, but there does include uncommon and rare Pokémon, such as Tangela and Chansey, depending on the quest in particular.
As well as from a PokéStop, one additional research quest will also be added to your list at midnight local time. If you have a full roster of research, then you'll receive a fourth regardless - though if you still have four the following evening, no more will be added.
It's also worth knowing that, as of Thursday 1st June 2023 with the release of the Season of Hidden Gems , the quests and associated rewards now rotate on a seasonal basis. The only excpetion to this rule is the Spinda field research task. This means that both the field research tasks and rewards will remain the same for three months in total, only changing when a new season - both in Pokémon Go and real life - rolls around.
Finally, it's also worth knowing that if you pick up a quest, you are free to delete it and catch another by spinning another Pokéstop. You can also complete as many as you like in a day - so when you have space in your inventory, return to a PokéStop to start quest. Spin the same Pokéstop and you'll just get the same quest again though - Pokéstops give out set rewards, that are generally tailored to their location, which refresh every day at midnight. So if you want a new quest you'll need to spin another stop.
Event-exclusive field research tasks can also be saved in your field research collection and completed after said event ends.
Completing one Field Research quest per day will give you a stamp. Get seven stamps - which will take seven days - completes something known as a Research Breakthrough .
These have even greater rewards - including Stardust and Mystery Items - as well as an encounter with a very rare or Legendary Pokémon .
You'll also receive plenty of other items too - including a chance at Rare Candy, Pokéballs, Berries, 2,000 Stardust, 3,000 XP, and a Sinnoh Stone .
The best news about these Research Breakthrough catches is they cannot run away - it has a flee chance of 0 per cent - so the pressure is off. However, it has the same catch rate as normal, so be prepared for it to break out of your balls.
This means you can use Pinap Berries, or even use it as a chance to rack up some of the harder throwing-based Special Research streaks, without any risk of it running away.
It also comes with strong IVs, too, as if the Pokémon was appearing in a Raid encounter or Egg. It always appears at level 15, which is the same for all mystery Pokémon caught from Field Research rewards.

Finally, the question is - when do the special reward Pokémon change in your Research Breakthrough progress? It's when you claim the reward for your final Field Research task.
So, you can complete the task, but just don't claim the reward for that task before 1pm PST / 9pm UK time of the first of the month, as doing so will activate the arrival of the Special Research reward at the top of the screen.
If it's before then, it'll be the reward for the month before (so in October 2018, this was Suicune). Wait until after, it'll be the next month's (so in November 2018, this is Shedinja).
To clarify further, this is when you complete the task, not open it. Even if you then open it after the change, it'll be the prior month's Pokémon. To be safe, wait until it's the new month if you want to get the latest creature.
The Shared Skies Season is here! Adventure Week has returned and sees the shiny rates for certain Fossil Pokémon boosted! Go Fest 2024 may have been and gone, but you can still play around with the Fusion mechanic. Meanwhile, ticket holders can finish Go Fest 2024: A Shadowy Caper and The Dusk Settles . Don't forget to try out Routes , Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon , fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases .
Special Research quests, meanwhile, are story-based questlines with unique rewards. Unlike Field Research quests, these are fixed objectives that every player will face, and appear in the game infrequently.
The first available is ' A Mythical Discovery ', with the arrival of the game's first Mythical creature - Mew - as the end reward.
Our A Mythical Discovery explains the eight steps required to unlock Mew, which includes finding specific Pokémon, participating in Raid and Gym battles, and reaching a certain Trainer level.
Since then we've seen more special research quests arrive for other mythical Pokémon, like Celebi and Meloetta , and ones themed around battling Team Go Rocket or investigating the Ultra Beasts. Ocassionally, you can even purchase a special research from the in-game Pokémon Go store, like Wish Granted , which will allow you to earn additional Pokémon, items or avatar clothing.
Make sure you're playing Pokémon Go regularly to ensure you're keeping up with all of the special research quests! Remember - since they don't have deadlines, you can complete these quests at your own pace.
Though the quest features are well explained in the game, there's some nuance that will help you get the most out of each objective you undertake.
- Completing one of the Special Research objectives will not add a daily stamp to your Research Breakthrough progress - it must be from a Field Research quest instead.
- You can cancel and complete as many Field Research quests as you want per day.
- As long as you have space for it, you will recieve one field research task automatically every day.
- It's possible to have multiple of the same Field Quest at once, and complete them all at the same time.
- Pokémon encounters from Research quests always feature Level 15 Pokémon, with the 66 per cent to 100 per cent IV spreads you also find in Raid or Egg encounters, and are unaffected by the weather.
- Certain Special Research quests (also known as Mew steps ) will be automatically completed if you complete their requirements since they are impossible to 'repeat', such as reaching a certain Trainer or medal level.
- You can spin the same PokéStop for Stop-spinning quests, and there is no difference between Gym Discs and PokéStop Discs when completing spin quests - though Gym Discs don't count towards "new Pokéstop" quests.
- You don't have to 'view' a quest in the quest screen to complete it, so if you don't have time to check what it is (if you're on a bus and there are PokéStops and Pokémon to catch quickly, for example) then it can wait - and if it's the right type of quest, you might have started work on it by the time you check it.
- Pokémon Go Plus can be used to collect quests from PokéStops and complete objectives.
- The mystery Pokémon you can catch after completing certain Field Research quests have the same high-end IV range as Egg and Gym Pokémon.
- You have to catch the mystery Pokémon in order to clear the research from your quest log - you can run away and come back, but you need to catch it to clear the quest, even if it's a rubbish Pokémon. Fleeing and trying again won't reset the Pokémon's stats, either - once it spawns, they're fixed.
- You can "cheese" the "Battle in X number of Raids" quests, by deliberately dodging your way through them until the timer runs out and retrying repeatedly. This is a great way to save on Raid Passes and complete the quest quickly, if you don't mind killing some time. Note that EX Raids do also count towards Raid quests, too.
- Catching evolved forms of Pokémon does count towards "Catch X number of Y Pokémon" quests. So I could catch a Gloom for a "Catch 2 Oddish" quest and it would count.
- Similarly, throwing better-tierd throws than required in ball-throwing quests counts too. So throwing a Great or Excellent Throw will count towards "Make 5 Nice Throws".
- You can miss days and not lose your streak of Stamps - it's just a cap of one Stamp that can be earned per day, not a "streak" that can be lost by missing a day, like the ones for spinning a Pokéstop or catching a Pokémon every day.
- Dittos count towards the types they're disguised as too - so a Ditto disguised as a Pidge will count towards "Catch 3 Pidgey" quests.
- Hatching and evolving Pokémon doesn't count towards catching tasks, you have to physically catch them in the wild or from Raid or mystery Pokémon encounters.
- You can indeed work towards two quests at once - so landing a Great Throw on a Pidgey will both count towards "Catch 3 Pidgey" and "Make 3 Great Throws" quests.
- You can delay claiming rewards for both Field and Special Research, although they'll need to be cleared before you get new ones. Delaying the rewards for you Special Research in particular is a good idea, as some of the later requests reward thousands of XP - it might be worth popping a Lucky Egg before claiming them all together.
Thanks to the Silph Road subreddit for filling in the gaps on some of the above.

The End of the Road: The Silph Road's Closure Announcement
The Silph Road
Niantic's response, until we meet again.
Since the early days of Pokemon Go, our community has had a few major resources that have been utilized and cited time and time again. Websites and other digital media platforms that have sought to blow away the cloud of confusing mechanics that this game has presented since its release back in 2016 in order to give players a real glimpse into the inner machinations that have come together to make up Pokemon Go as a whole. In the early days, the internet was filled with misinformation and baseless rumors that made their rounds constantly and kept players from knowing what was actually happening and what was going to happen. And while we have always done our best to be as reliable a resource as possible from the start, without a doubt one of the premier resources available since their inception has been none other than The Silph Road .
The Silph Road, for the few who may not be aware, is an organized group focused in part on building up a community of players that have worked together to detangle the hidden mechanics of Pokemon Go, demystify the many hidden secrets that Niantic has tried to keep from our eyes, and lead many in our community to a more rewarding reason to play this game that unites us even now. But it's so much more than even that. For a very long time now, The Silph Road in all of its various features and functions have been the collective mind of the Pokemon Go community, with thousands of players coming together like neurons to produce great things. Even Niantic, shut-off from the community though they may be, has been forced to recognize the great work of The Silph Road and has gone so far as to sponsor them; an unprecedented boon that speaks volumes as to just how important this team has long been.
But, sadly, all good things must come to an end.
In an extremely unfortunate turn of events, Niantic's sponsorship of The Silph Road has come to an end, and they have not opted to continue it moving forward. While I could simply abridge the situation here, I feel that this wouldn't do the hard work of these individuals any justice, so here's the actual post on The Silph Road's Reddit outlining the full situation:
The End of an Era: After seven extraordinary years, the Silph Road team is ceasing operations. Thank you all for joining us on this remarkable journey. by u/dronpes in TheSilphRoad
It's a very unfortunate turn of events, as this is a huge loss for the Pokemon Go community as a whole. The resources put out by The Silph Road have long been considered some of the best on the net, so we will sorely miss them. The silver lining to this cloud is the fact that their Reddit will continue to operate, and that their researchers intend to continue their work despite despite this loss.
For this reason, we highly recommend that everyone joins The Silph Road's Reddit in order to show solidarity for their contributions to the community and hard work.
Amazingly, Niantic has actually broken their traditional silence when it comes to matters of the Pokemon Go Community and released an official statement in regards to their choice to no longer pursue a partnership with The Silph Road.
Niantic's Letter
Trainers, For the past year we’ve had the pleasure of partnering with the Silph Road on the Community Ambassador Program. It’s been great working with the team on this project, and it has also been incredible watching the passionate contributors at the Silph Road grow a truly amazing community hub. While we’re sad to see the Silph Road closing its doors, we want to thank them for all they’ve done for the Pokémon GO community in the last six years. The Community Ambassador Program will continue to move forward into its next iteration. While we are closing applications for the month of May during the transition, community leaders will have expanded opportunities to apply to be a Community Ambassador outside of the Silph Road. Soon, Trainers from across the globe will be able to apply to this revamped program via Campfire, providing opportunities to share and grow their community and receive rewards for gathering in-person to play. We’ll continue to add more opportunities into the program, such as providing unique access and rewards for Community Ambassadors and their fellow Trainers. You’ll still be able to use the Pokémon GO map to share where you can find your local community and play together during special events. Stay tuned for more updates as we get ready for the future of the Community Ambassador Program, and thank you again to the team at the Silph Road for their energy, passion, and dedication.
Sadly, the message from Niantic is less about the hard work of the community and more focused on their personal plans moving forward, including a temporary closure of applications for their Ambassador Program and updates to Campfire in the near future.
We've lost a lot here today, that fact cannot be understated. However, just like the Silph Road teams that are going to continue their work despite losing one of the more identifying pieces of their team and arguably their home-base, we're going to continue to move on. But, for now, please accept our respect and thanks for all that you've done, Silph Road team. May your future journeys be as great as your previous!

Each Research Breakthrough you achieve in January 2021 will lead to an encounter with Chansey. You'll achieve a Research Breakthrough once you've amassed seven stamps. As a refresher, one stamp is doled out for the first Field Research task you complete each day, so you'll need complete at least one task daily for a full week to encounter Chansey.
If you don't manage to achieve a Research Breakthrough before the month ends, don't worry; any stamps you've earned will carry over, so your progress will go toward next month's Research Breakthrough.
Other new Pokemon encounters are also available as potential rewards for completing this month's Field Research. You can see the list of tasks and their possible rewards, as compiled by The Silph Road , below.
January 2021 is another busy month for Pokemon Go. Developer Niantic has a number of January events lined up for the game, including a Sinnoh Celebration and another Community Day. The studio is also bringing a handful of Legendary and Mythical Pokemon back to Raids this month; Heatran is currently appearing until January 19, while Groudon and Kyogre will follow from January 19-26.

Ditto is an elusive Pokémon in Pokémon Go , as it disguises itself and you can’t actually just catch one straight-up.
In order to find Ditto, you’ll want to find the Pokémon that it currently disguises itself as. For example, you may see a Diglett, and it’ll stay a Diglett once you tap on it, but it’s secretly a Ditto. Once you catch that Pokémon, you’ll be met with an “Oh?” prompt, and it’ll turn into a Ditto — if you’re lucky.
Ditto’s chosen disguises changes from time to time, so you’ll want to make sure you know what the disguises are currently if you’re Ditto hunting — especially if you are after a shiny.
Below, we’ve listed out the current Ditto disguises in Pokémon Go for August 2024 .
Pokémon Go Ditto disguises in August 2024
As of Dec. 18, 2023 — following the Adamant Times event — Ditto can currently be any of the following Pokémon in Pokémon Go:
- Oddish (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Koffing (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Rhyhorn (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Goldeen (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Numel (Gen 3, Hoenn)
- Bidoof (Gen 4, Sinnoh)
- Solosis (Gen 5, Unova)
- Bergmite (Gen 6, Kalos)
- Stufful (Gen 7, Alola)
How to find shiny Ditto in Pokémon Go
There’s a few things to know about Ditto and shiny hunting. For one, if you encounter a shiny Pokémon that can be a Ditto, it will never be a Ditto . Don’t worry, you won’t lose your shiny.
Finding a shiny Ditto is just the luck of the draw . Any Ditto you find and catch has a chance to be shiny , and the shiny rates are higher than usual. Expert research group The Silph Road says it’s about a one in 64 chance to be shiny ( via Wayback Machine ). You’ll just have to get lucky when you find disguised Pokémon.
Shiny Ditto was initially made available to players via a paid Special Research Task set for the Kanto Tour back in 2021, but is now just a regular encounter.

Adventure Week is a staple on the annual Pokémon Go calendar and this year’s iteration will run from August 2, 2024, at 10am local time to August 12, 2024, at 8pm local time. As usual with this event, things revolve around fossil Pokémon with monsters like Cranidas, Shieldon, Tirtouga, Archen, Tyrunt, and Amaura having an increased Shiny chance.

Pokémon GO Promo Codes & How To Redeem Them (August 2024)
Pokémon go spotlight hour schedule for august 2024, pokémon go raid boss schedule for august 2024, quick links, pokémon go adventure week collection challenges, pokémon go adventure week timed research tasks & rewards.
Pokémon GO 's popular Adventure Week event has returned for its 2024 edition. There's a new set of Collection Challenges to complete, Field Research tasks to unlock, and a paid-for set of Timed Research tasks to work through. All of these lead to reward encounters with rare Pokémon like Anorith, Archen, Tirtouga, Tyrunt, and Amaura, so it's worth completing as many as you can.
Adventure Week is a fan-favorite celebration in Pokémon GO , as it features a range of fossil Pokémon that typically can't be caught in the wild. This is a great opportunity not only to fill out your Pokédex, but also to earn enough Candy to evolve the likes of Kabuto and Omanyte. To help you out, you can see details of the event's Collection Challenges and Timed Research tasks below.
If you're looking for some free rewards in Pokémon GO, make sure you check out the latest promo codes for August 2024 to see what you can claim.
Catch & Evolve These Wild Pokémon
There are two Collection Challenges to work through in the Adventure Week event. Each one requires you to obtain five different Pokémon, some by catching them and others by evolving them. You can see details of both Collection Challenges, how to find each featured Pokémon, and the rewards you'll get for completing them in the table below:
Ancient Discoveries Collection Challenge
Pokémon | How To Catch It | What It Looks Like |
---|---|---|
Kabuto | Spawning in the wild | |
Kabutops | Evolve a Kabuto with 50 Candy | |
Aerodactyl | Spawning in the wild | |
Omanyte | Spawning in the wild | |
Omastar | Evolve an Omanyte with 50 Candy |
When you complete this Collection Challenge, you'll be rewarded with 2500 Stardust, an Anorith encounter, and 25 Mega Aerodactyl Energy .
Aerodactyl is listed as a rare wild spawn for this event, but if you explore enough you should be able to find one. Incense can help here by increasing the amount of Pokémon that spawn in your location. On the other hand, Kabuto and Omanyte are fairly common spawns, so they shouldn't give you too much trouble.
Dig It Collection Challenge
Pokémon | How To Catch It | What It Looks Like |
---|---|---|
Drilbur | Spawning in the wild and appearing as a Field Research reward | |
Excadrill | Evolve a Drilbur with 50 Candy | |
Dunsparce | Spawning in the wild and appearing as a Field Research reward | |
Diglett | Spawning in the wild | |
Dugtrio | Evolve a Diglett with 50 Candy |
When you complete this Collection Challenge, you'll be rewarded with 2500 Stardust, a Lileep encounter, and 25 Mega Aerodactyl Energy .
For the evolutions in these Collection Challenges, remember to use Pinap Berries when catching their pre-evolutions. This will give you some extra Candy to put towards the evolution cost.
If you're struggling to find any of these Pokémon, you can check the Nearby feature by tapping the Pokémon symbols at the bottom-right-hand corner of the map screen. This will show a range of Pokémon that are currently spawning at nearby locations in the real world. If you spot one you need to catch, head to that location and one should spawn on the map.
Egg Incubators & Rare Pokémon Encounters
A paid-for set of Timed Research tasks is available to purchase from the in-game shop for $2 / £1.99 or the equivalent price in your local currency. The main rewards on offer here are two Egg Incubators, a Super Incubator, and an Aerodactyl encounter , but there are several other Pokémon reward encounters to discover too, including Archen and Tirtouga.
Whether you're wondering if it's worth purchasing a ticket or you just want to see what Pokémon encounters are available, you can see the full list of Adventure Week Timed Research tasks and rewards in the table below:
Task | Reward |
---|---|
Explore 2km | Tyrunt encounter |
Explore 2km | Amaura encounter |
Explore 4km | Tyrunt encounter |
Explore 4km | Amaura encounter |
Hatch an Egg | Archen encounter |
Hatch an Egg | Tirtouga encounter |
Hatch 2 Eggs | Archen encounter |
Hatch 2 Eggs | Tirtouga encounter |
Complete 10 Field Research tasks | Cranidos |
Complete 10 Field Research tasks | Shieldon |
For completing all of these tasks, you'll be rewarded with 2 Egg Incubators, 1 Super Incubator, and an Aerodactyl encounter .
Remember, you've only got until August 12, 2024, to finish this set of Timed Research tasks and Collection Challenges, as that's when the Adventure Week event comes to a close. This is longer than most events in Pokémon GO run for, though, so hopefully you'll be able to complete everything and earn all of those rewards.

Niantic announces sponsorship for The Silph Road and Silph.gg
Niantic has officially announced that they will be sponsoring two community projects going forward: The Silph Road and Silph.gg .
Both of these projects were brought to life by Reddit’s /r/thesilphroad community, and made way to a wide array of awesome community projects like the Nest Atlas, GO Community Map, in-person handshakes and more.
The sponsorship comes in at a perfect time , according to Dronpes, one of The Silph Road founders. TSR has seen some rocky moments in recent months, with declining ad revenues making it hard to keep servers alive.
Niantic has agreed to cover Silph’s operating costs so we can run ad-free (and without the risk of imminent shutdown we were facing)
Here are the full details from the official Niantic post :
- Ensuring that Silph Road stays ad-free. While The Silph Road is sponsored by Niantic, you’ll never have to worry about third-party ads on their websites, including Silph.gg and TheSilphRoad.com.
- Development of new ways to connect players to Niantic and each other. We’re creating new ways for players to meet, play, and talk to each other to help reconnect local communities and create avenues for Niantic to support them.
- A new Community Ambassador Program. Created and maintained by Niantic, we’ll be working with Silph Road to launch a brand new program that provides perks and rewards for active communities and their leaders who run in-person events. Keep your eyes peeled for more news on this program and how you can join!
- We know that thriving communities are the backbone of our game, and we’re excited to partner with Silph and their years of community support to re-ignite in-person gameplay.
Congraulations to both parties – we hope that the sponsorship brings back the Nest Atlas in its full glory, and potentially allows for new, community driven projects.
