A railway journey | A railway journey essay with quotations | A railway journey paragraph

It is said that to go to travel is to go to school. It means that by travelling from one city or country to another, we can learn a lot about life, the world around us, human nature, man's behaviour and his actions and reactions in odd circumstances. Those who are inquisitive by nature travel extensively and gain knowledge about customs, traditions, rites, rituals and ways of living of different people belonging to different creeds and countries. They communicate this knowledge to us through their travelogues which are read with great interest and admiration throughout the world.

Unfortunately, I am one of those who are though not idle and dull, hate moving from place to place reading people's faces, commenting on their behaviour and inferring some bad results. Whenever I have to travel to some other city, I just feel sick. On the train, I occupy a seat near a window, close my eyes and dive deep into the ocean of sleep But last month, during my journey from Multan to Lahore I had to keep my eyes wide open because I was forced to keep standing on my thin and lean legs for hours by a fat, piggish a woman who had occupied my seat.

Eld brings blessings of God who purifies our souls. But it also brings golden opportunities for those who like to collect illegal gratification to fill their children's bellies with the fire of hell One such rogue had resold my seat to the lady. The compartment was jam-packed but still more passengers were trying to enter it. They were pushing and pulling one another. Some were abusing the railway authorities who had not made proper arrangements for the people to travels on the occasion of Eid.

Three educated persons who were discussing moral values, social problems and political chaos of the country refused to give some space to the old man who pleaded that he was sick and would not be able to stand.

An old man bought a newspaper but he could not read it himself. The passengers who were sitting beside him requested him to give them the inner pages. The old man grumbled but handed over the newspaper to them. The newspaper travelled in the whole compartment and after an hour or two when it came back in the hands of the old man it was worn and torn. It could now be used as toilet paper only.

In the meantime, beggars kept pouring in, Lame, blind, widows, sick and orphan all kinds of beggars were there to expose our social, moral and economic bankruptcy.

I was now dead tired. My legs were also numb. I could not stand it anymore. The big, fat lady was snoring like an elephant. All of a sudden, the train stopped with a jerk and I losing my balance fell into her lap. I felt as if I had fallen on some big balloon. The lady screamed loudly, opened her eyes and with her giant hands threw me to the front seat. Now it was my turn to close the eyes. Perhaps I was unconscious. When I opened my eyes, I was in my Chachu's bedroom. He was standing near me and singing,

"Kinnae kinnae jana ay Billo thay ghar". I cried, "No, no! I'll not go anywhere. Not even to Billo's ghar".

A Journey by Train Essay/Paragraph

During last summer vacation, I went on a family trip to Puri with my family. This was my first long journey by train. We reached the Howrah railway station with all our luggage quite early. The train departed from Howrah at around 9 o’clock in the morning. When I looked outside everything was running behind, I loved that scene. The train was moving quite fast. The whole train was crowded.

After boarding, we had our breakfast. I always prefer a window seat, because I can enjoy beautiful nature from there. I was impressed by the beauty of the landscape. Watching the beautiful natural scenes outside gave me extreme happiness. The train finally reached the Puri station at 6 o’clock in the evening. It was an exciting train journey.

Short Essay on A Journey by Train

Train journeys are always very exciting. We get to meet a lot of new people. Two weeks back had a train journey. The name of the train was Howrah-Dhanbad Black Diamond Express. My destination was Asansol. The train departed from Howrah around 6.40 in the morning. The weather was pleasant and I took a window seat.

Most of the passengers inside the train compartment were either reading a newspaper or sleeping. I started reading one of my favourite novels. The constant yelling of the hawkers forced me to close the book and look out of the window. Around 8.30 in the morning I bought a cup of coffee and a packet of biscuits from a hawker. Having small sips in the coffee concentrated on the visuals and images that changed rapidly outside the train compartment.

I noticed that concrete jungle have paved its way to lush green fields and ponds with trees surrounding them. Farmers were tilling children were going to school through the mud track. The ambiance outside was serene and in complete contrast with the atmosphere inside the train.

Introduction:

Once I read a poem. I still remember some of  its lines as follows:

“All of the sights of the hill and the plain Fly as thick as driving rain; And ever again, in the wink of an eye Painted stations whistle by.” (From A Railway Carriage-RL Stevenson)

A journey by a speeding train is an exciting experience. The modern age seems to be obsessed with speed. So people prefer to travel by the railways than by road.

Description of the Journey:

One day, my father announced that we were going to visit Shantiniketan during the winter holidays. I was simply thrilled. On the scheduled day, we reached Howrah station in the morning. The Shantiniketan Express stood majestically at the platform. The station was humming with the din and bustle. There were rings of people before the ticket counters. We entered a compartment and settled down for the journey. I managed a seat beside a window. Soon the signal was green at the far end of the platform. Within a minute, the train began to move. We glided out of the station. Then it picked up speed.

As the train thundered on, I surrendered my ears to the rattle of the train wheels. They were making rickety-rackety sounds when they rolled over the tracks. I looked outside through the window to get a view of the Nature outside. The train was passing by harvested fields, meadows, brooklets, and small ponds. Through the window, the world outside looked like a motion picture. Everything looked very bright and pleasant in the morning sunshine.

I looked about my compartment. Father was flipping through a magazine. Mother was chatting with an elderly couple. The hawkers and vendors were selling various foodstuffs. A beggar was singing a song while begging. In the meantime, the train reached at Guskara station. After half an hour it reached Bolpur.

My Feelings:

I got spellbound to see the fantastic wild beauty of nature through the window. The greatness of God manifested in nature’s creations. I remembered some lines of a poem-

“The true pleasing spirits sight’s That may breed true love’s delights” (Nicholas Breton)

The breeze was gentle, fresh, glorious, and a pleasure to breathe. It was pouring into our compartment from outside. I sometimes lost my sense of individuality and seemed to expand through the window. Thus, I wanted to establish a magical link with nature.

Conclusion:

Thus ended my first train journey. This journey was so pleasant that l experienced an intense high.

Essay on Journey By Train 200+ Words

Picture this: You’re sitting by the window, watching the world go by, as the rhythmic clatter of wheels on tracks fills the air. A journey by train is not just a means of transportation; it’s an adventure filled with scenic beauty, historic significance, and a touch of nostalgia. In this essay, I will argue that a journey by train is a unique and captivating experience that offers a window into the heart and soul of a region.

The Scenic Beauty

One of the most captivating aspects of a train journey is the stunning scenery that unfolds outside your window. Whether you’re crossing vast landscapes, traversing rolling hills, or gliding alongside rivers, the views are often breathtaking. For example, a train ride through the Swiss Alps offers panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks and lush valleys.

Experts in travel and tourism highlight the scenic beauty of train journeys as a major attraction. Many travelers choose train travel specifically to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the regions they pass through.

The Historical Significance

Trains are more than just a mode of transportation; they are a symbol of progress and history. The construction of railroads played a pivotal role in shaping countries and connecting distant regions. For instance, the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia is a marvel of engineering that spans thousands of miles, linking Moscow to Vladivostok.

Historians emphasize the historical significance of train travel. Trains have been central to the development of nations and the movement of goods and people.

The Nostalgia Factor

There’s something nostalgic about a journey by train. It harks back to a time when travel was more leisurely, and the journey was as important as the destination. The sound of the train’s whistle, the clickety-clack of the wheels, and the cozy compartments evoke a sense of nostalgia for days gone by.

Literature and art often romanticize train travel, capturing its nostalgic charm. Films, books, and songs have celebrated the allure of trains and the emotions they evoke.

The Sense of Connection

A train journey provides a unique sense of connection to the places you pass through. Unlike air travel, where you often land in large airports far from the heart of a city, trains take you right into the heart of towns and cities. You can witness daily life unfolding outside your window, from bustling markets to serene countryside.

Travel enthusiasts praise train travel for its ability to create a deeper connection to the regions and people you encounter. It allows you to engage with local culture and experience the authentic essence of a place.

Environmental Benefits

Trains are also an environmentally friendly mode of transportation. They produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions per passenger mile compared to cars and airplanes. Trains are energy-efficient and contribute to reducing air pollution and congestion on the roads.

Environmental experts emphasize the sustainability of train travel as a way to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation. Choosing trains over other modes of travel can have a positive impact on the environment.

Conclusion of Essay on Journey By Train

In conclusion, a journey by train is more than just a way to get from one place to another; it’s a captivating experience that offers a window into the world’s beauty, history, and nostalgia. The scenic beauty, historical significance, and sense of connection make train travel a unique adventure. Moreover, the environmental benefits of train travel make it a responsible choice for those who care about our planet. So, next time you have the opportunity, consider embarking on a journey by train, and let the rails take you on a magical ride through both space and time.

Long and Short Essays on Journey by Train for Students and Kids in English

We have given below one brief essay on the topic composed of 500 words and another brief piece comprising 100-150 words.

Long Essay on Train Journey 500 words in English

Journey by Train essay is usually given to classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

A train journey is one of the most exciting travel experiences. It can usually be of two types, short trips and long, overnight tours. Children are very fond of train journeys because of the pure pleasure of getting window seats. These days, people prefer traveling via airplanes because it is time-saving. But going by plane gets boring and monotonous. Train journeys are a relief from the monotony.

On local trains which are meant for covering short distances, children lustily crave for the variety of available snacks. Regional trains in India are overcrowded and hardly offer any place to sit. Despite the apparent lack of comfort, they are life-sustaining forces for many people. Not only are they the cheapest but also the fastest mode of transport for many routes.

Local train journeys are every day for almost every stratum of society. The crowd is so universal that one can spot people belonging to the most meager professions and people belonging to high-paid jobs. Beggars, managers, midwives, and maidservants, everybody avails the local trains because of their sheer advantages.

Local trains have their attractions. We often marvel at the scenery fleeting past us, the ever inconspicuous crowd, and the vendors who never cease boarding the train with delicacies. They sell salted peanuts in small pouches, toffees of varied tastes and flavors, and other “namkeens.” Children often pester their parents to buy them goodies because they can hardly control their urges.

Coming to overnight journeys, trains are the safest mode of transport for that purpose. While traveling within the country, one must avail of passengers because they are affordable and comfortable. Traveling with infants and kids becomes more accessible in trains. Train journeys offer the serendipity to stare outside the windows for countless hours. It is indeed a source of great joy as we watch the moving sceneries. Hills, mountains, rivers, and fields rush past us, and all we can do is marvel at their beauty.

It is a familiar feeling to run outside and enjoy the luscious fields and grasslands. Children often tell their parents that they wish the train would stop and run miles on the green rice and cornfields. The urban set up has deprived most of us the fortune to appreciate greenery, and train journeys are a welcome retreat from pollution and noise in the cities.

At night, we are mesmerized by the starry sky outside our windows and the dark alleys that seem to lure us into exploring them. Youngsters find it very adventurous and wish they had one opportunity to explore those mysterious streets. Sleeping on trains is a task the children do not like. However, the mild motion lulls them to relax, and they get their much-awaited rest.

Certain trains offer food to their passengers. The quality of the food varies, but mostly, it is good. However, the excitement to rush to the platforms to buy food when the train halts at designated stations is both nerve-wracking and enjoyable. Train journeys are thus the sweetest and most exciting travel experience, and one must try it at least once in a lifetime.

Essay about Journey by Train

Train journeys are unique in a lot of ways. The memories they offer, the experiences made and the lessons learned are valuable. One should preserve their fond memories about train journeys, and it is bound to bring a smile on his face later in life. Apart from snacks and beautiful vista, trains offer co-passengers who become friends. There is nothing more marvelous than having a pair of friendly co-passengers who accompany us, talk to us and laugh with us.

The journey teaches us valuable lessons. The co-passengers show us how in the mission of our lives, we come across some kindred souls who make the distance bearable and accompany us. We lose them to the everlasting flow, and in the end, we walk alone.

A railway station is an interesting place. It is a human museum or a fair of human faces. Yesterday, I went to the Railway Station to see off my friend. We reached there half an hour earlier than the time arrival of the train. There were only a few persons in a queue before the booking office window. We bought tickets and went to the platform. There was a big crowd of people. The coolies were carrying luggage from one platform to another. Some passengers were looking in the direction of the incoming train.

All the waiting rooms were overcrowded. There were some passengers in the refreshment room. There was a great rush at the tea stalls at the refreshment the train reached in then everybody was hurrying. People were trying to get good capacity. People threw language through the windows. There was a great rush in and out. The hawkers were crying the names of their wares at the top of their voices. Watermen were supplying water to thirsty passengers. Porters were loading and unloading parcels from out of the parcel van. The whole station staff was busy.

Luckily, my friend got a comfortable seat in the second-class compartment. The guard whistled and waved the green flag. The train moved on. People on the platform left the place one by one. Now the noise and uproar were gone. I also took my way home. The platform looked like a deserted place. All its hustle and bustle was over in a few minutes.

When they failed to get a room in the compartments, they caught hold of the handles outside some carriages. They stood on the footboards.

Members of the station staff looked busy with their duties. The ticket collector was at the gate. He collected tickets to drink. The hawkers went up and down with their wares. All were busy. After a few minutes, the engine gave a long whistle and the train left the platform.

There were some scenes of painful partings of parents seeing off their children going for distant destinations and some eager to met their nears and dears arriving after a long time. The waiting at the Railway Station seemed to pass off very fast while looking at all these things.

Soon there was a signal of the arrival of the train. There was a lot of commotion. Everybody began to move, catch hold of his luggage and making way towards their respective compartments. Some began to negotiate with the  TTE’s to confirm their unconfirmed seats. Most of them seemed dejected. In no, the whole crowd seemed to dwindle away leaving the whole platform almost deserted. I said goodbye to my father and sister and the train moved. Everyone around was seen waving hands for their departing nears and dears. It was really a sight to see. I also came out and headed towards my home.

A Scene at a Railway Platform

A railway station is a very busy place. Big railway stations numerous trains continue coming and going day and night. The real charm of the railway station can be enjoyed by standing at one of the platforms.

Last Sunday, I had to go to Bareilly. I went to the local railway 1 station at about 8.00 a.m. I bought a ticket at the booking window and entered platform No.1 from where the train was scheduled to go.

I learned that the train was late by one hour. I had come in a hurry and hadn’t taken my breakfast. So, I took my breakfast there at the platform.

I sat on a bench and began to look idly here and there to kill time. I saw coolies rushing from one platform to the other. They had heavy loads of luggage on their heads.

The vendors were crying for their wares. They were selling all kinds of eatables. Fast food in particular was in great demand. Most of the people were drinking tea. A few were having cold drinks.

I found some people sitting on the benches and just staring in different directions like me. Some passengers who were waiting for one or the other train were reading newspapers or magazines. Some were chatting or discussing politics. Some were blaming the government for various social and economic ailments.

I was amused at the sight of incoming and outgoing trains at various platforms. The signaling and interlocking system particularly impressed me.

As the train came, I moved towards it and boarded it. Soon the signal was down. The guard waved the green flag and the train steamed out.

They shout at the top of their voices to attract customers. There are many bookstalls in the railway station. Passengers who like to read come here and buy books to read on the train.

Many porters can be seen on the platform. They wear red coloured dresses. They carry the luggage of the people on their heads from one platform to another and from train to their vehicles outside the railway Station

Loudspeakers inside the railway station announce the arrival and the departure of trains. They inform the waiting passengers about the number of the platform on which the trains would come.

A part of the railway station consists of the booking offices. People queue up in front of the booking windows to buy tickets and to get the reservation done. There are also many information counters from where the information about the trains can be obtained

As the trains come on to the platform, there is a great hustle and bustle everywhere. People rush to get inside their compartments. They push and jostle each other. Many times small quarrels erupt between people. Things settle down when the train moves out of the platform. Friends and relatives wave their near and dear ones goodbye.

This scene repeats itself every time a train comes and goes. Life inside and outside the railway station is constantly on the move.

Essay On “Scene At The Railway Station” In English With Quotations

The smart stationmaster along with his efficient staff was moving about hurriedly because the rain was about to come shortly. The posters were looking for some good, handsome business and so were moving about in agility. I saw a few persons reading magazines, novels, newspapers, and other things of this sort sitting on the waiting bench. Some passengers were offering their prayers in one corner of the platform, neglecting the whole clamor all around. I got very much impressed by their preoccupation and appreciated them a lot in my heart.

In the meanwhile, a loud noise of ‘train’, ‘train’ came from the platform and everything got in full swing in the wink of an eye. There was a strange atmosphere that made everyone to be in a hurry which was beyond all senses. The passengers alighting from or getting into the train were set against each other in a thorough quarrelsome mood. They were pushing one another just for nothing and the overall result was zero. Nobody was willing to wait for this train and do the courtesy to his fellow beings. In addition to this, the potters were doing their own job by pushing the luggage in and out of the different compartments. While shouting at the vendors together with the frightful cries I was forced to think that we, as a nation, stand far behind the comity of a cultured nation.

There was a strange atmosphere that made everyone to be in a hurry which was beyond all senses. ایک عجیب سا ماحول تھا جس نے ہر کسی کو جلدی میں مبتلا کر دیا تھا جو ہر کسی کے حواس سے باہر تھا۔
The passengers alighting from or getting into the train were set against each other in a thorough quarrelsome mood. ٹرین سے اُترنے یا اُترنے والے مسافر ایک دوسرے کے خلاف سخت جھگڑالو مزاج میں تھے۔
They were pushing one another just for nothing and the overall result was zero. وہ ایک دوسرے کو محض بے مقصد دھکیل رہے تھے اور مجموعی نتیجہ صفر تھا۔
Nobody was willing to wait for this train and do the courtesy to his fellow beings. کوئی بھی اس ٹرین کا انتظار کرنے اور اپنے ساتھی انسانوں کے ساتھ حسن سلوک کرنے کو تیار نہیں تھا۔
In addition to this, the potters were doing their own job by pushing the luggage in and out of the different compartments. اس کے علاوہ کمہار مختلف ڈبوں میں سامان کو اندر اور باہر دھکیل کر اپنا کام کر رہے تھے۔
While shouting at the vendors together with the frightful cries I was forced to think that we, as a nation, stand far behind the comity of a cultured nation.
I was so engaged in all this that I forgot my friend at the moment and got shocked or startled when he called me loudly from inside the compartment. میں اس سب میں اس قدر مشغول تھا کہ میں اس وقت اپنے دوست کو بھول گیا اور جب اس نے ڈبے کے اندر سے مجھے زور سے پکارا تو چونک گیا یا چونک گیا۔
I rushed towards him and after a long struggle against various obstacles; I managed to get him outside the train. میں اس کی طرف دوڑا اور مختلف رکاوٹوں کے خلاف طویل جدوجہد کے بعد۔ میں اسے ٹرین سے باہر لانے میں کامیاب ہوگیا۔
Both of us were thankful to Allah that after all, we were safe and sound. ہم دونوں اللہ کا شکر ادا کر رہے تھے کہ آخر کار ہم بالکل صحیح سلامت رہے۔
This was truly a fun experience that shall always remain in my heart with all its specialties. یہ واقعی ایک دلچسپ تجربہ تھا جو اپنی تمام خصوصیات کے ساتھ ہمیشہ میرے دل میں رہے گا۔
It was just like a fair. یہ بالکل میلے کی طرح تھا۔
“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It’s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.” (Quotation) “یادوں کو تھامے رکھنے کا سب سے برا حصہ درد نہیں ہے۔ یہ اس کی تنہائی ہے۔ یادوں کو بانٹنے کی ضرورت ہے۔” (اقتباس)

The railway is a cheap and best way of transportation. Traveling by Railway is very interesting also. Last month I decided to go to Shimla to meet my friend by train . I consulted the Railway Time Table . I found that the next train was to leave for Shimla at 10 p.m. I got ready and went to the railway station. I reached the station one hour earlier.

There was a long queue in front of the booking window . But a lady helps me to get a ticket . She purchased the ticket for me. I went to the platform with my bag. The platform was overcrowded.

After some time the signal was lowered. I saw the train approaching the platform. The train arrived and stopped. Everyone rushed towards the compartments and tried to get in. I made my way into a compartment. I was lucky to get a good seat by the window. After fifteen minutes, the guard blew the whistle and then waved the green flag . The train started and soon it was steaming off at a great speed.

The night was cool and it began to rain. I closed the windowpane and covered myself with a blanket. I looked out through the glass window. The trees , houses , and huts seemed to wheel back. The passengers were doing something or the other. Some were gossiping and chatting . Some were discussing the burning questions of the day.

The train reached Kalka. I changed my train to Shimla. After some hours I reached Shimla and meet my friend.

A Journey by Train Essay

Experience of a Journey by Train

As a young kid, I usually jumped with enthusiasm whenever my parents planned a trip, as I loved travelling, especially by train. My journeys by train were always comfortable and unforgettable. I always looked forward to my vacations because that was the time when I got to visit my father’s ancestral home located in a remote village. Due to my father’s job, we were stationed in a town, and it was during my 10-day vacation that I was able to journey by train to meet my grandparents.

Normally, we start early in the morning as our train will leave at 7.30 am from Hasanpura station. Inside the train station, many porters circled my parents, demanding to carry our luggage. But we used to get past them to reach our platform and wait for a few minutes before the train arrived. Nonetheless, the wait is not dull as I get to observe many people around and listen to their chitter-chatter.

We kept our bags ready as we heard the announcement of the train arriving. After boarding the train and sitting near the window, I heard the station master blow the whistle and wave the green flag. Slowly, the train started moving, and once it left the platform, it sped up. From here begins my joyous ride on the train. The most exciting part of my train journey was the number of vendors that passed our berths, where I could eat some delicious snacks and buy some colouring books. The seat was spacious, and yet I jumped to the top berth to enjoy colouring or get a good sleep.

After some time, I sat by the window and took in the beautiful sights of the village. With blooming trees and working people on the fields, it was truly an attractive sight outside. If I were to travel by car or bus, I wouldn’t have been able to see these wonderful places as I easily became travel sick. But a journey by train enables me to enjoy each moment and experience.

Moral of the Essay

Essay on ‘A Journey by Train to Shimla’ – Essay 3 (300 words)

Train journeys hold a unique charm, especially when they lead to enchanting destinations like Shimla. However, what makes the journey even more captivating is the special toy train that runs from Kalka to Shimla, winding through breathtaking landscapes. A trip to Shimla remains incomplete without experiencing this iconic train ride. Thus, we planned our Shimla trip well in advance and secured our tickets for this much-talked-about train journey.

Our Journey to Shimla by Toy Train

During last year’s autumn break, we embarked on a memorable journey to Shimla. We began our travel by bus to Kalka, the starting point of our adventure with the toy train. Initially, I expected it to be just another train journey, offering glimpses of mountains and valleys. However, it turned out to be an exhilarating and extraordinary experience. Throughout our journey, we found ourselves immersed in the lap of nature, not merely observing the mountains, valleys, and lush greenery, but feeling like an integral part of this natural wonder as the train gracefully traversed the mountains.

Spanning a duration of 5-6 hours, this journey was filled with thrills and excitement. The route featured a multitude of tunnels and bridges that added to the allure. There were more than 100 tunnels and approximately 800 bridges along the route. I remained glued to the window seat, relishing the splendid vistas outside. At one point, the train made a brief stop at a quaint station, affording us a brief ten-minute break to explore.

Throughout the journey, my parents and brother shared in my delight, finding it as enjoyable as I did. We chose the same train for our return journey, unwilling to miss out on a second opportunity to savor this captivating experience.

Undoubtedly, this train journey stands out as the most remarkable one in my life. My deep love for nature made this journey even more special. I sincerely hope for a chance to traverse this enchanting route once more, as it left an indelible mark on my heart.

Essay on ‘My First Train Journey’ – Essay4 (400 words)

My First Train Journey

My very first train journey was an unforgettable experience that I embarked on when I was in the 2nd standard. It was a special trip to attend my maternal aunt’s wedding in Dehradun. As soon as the news of the wedding spread, excitement and joy filled our home. My mother began planning her outfits, while my father organized our travel arrangements. We decided to travel by train, accompanied by a few relatives, marking my maiden voyage on a train.

Planning the Train Journey

Train journeys require meticulous planning for a smooth and enjoyable trip. My parents carefully studied the available trains on our route to select the most convenient option. We booked our tickets well in advance, packed our bags, and ensured that all necessary arrangements were in place for our journey.

The Journey Begins

Our train journey commenced as a night voyage. We arrived at the railway station on time, settled into our seats, and, within a few minutes, the train began its journey.

Fun on the Way

As we greeted our relatives and settled in for the long journey, there was an air of excitement. Many of us hadn’t seen each other in months, so there was plenty to catch up on. I sat with my cousins, and we eagerly planned to make the most of this train journey. They had brought along board games, and we engaged in an entertaining one.

After a few rounds of the game, it was time for dinner. The food served on the train was surprisingly delectable. Following dinner, I found a cozy spot by the window. Despite the darkness of the night, I enjoyed the rhythmic sounds of the moving train, a novel experience for me.

As everyone finished their meals, we decided to play antakshari . Our relatives enthusiastically joined in, and we sang songs and played antakshari for an hour before it was time to rest.

A Scenic Morning

The next morning, I awoke early and was greeted by a stunning view outside the window. The lush green fields, the rising sun, the distant hills, and the charming huts along the way — everything appeared exceptionally beautiful. This scenic morning view was the highlight of my train journey.

In hindsight, my first train journey was incredibly exciting and fascinating. I cherished every moment of it, and the delightful company of my cousins added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience.

Long Essay on Journey by Train

Essay on ‘a memorable journey by train’ – essay 4 (500 words).

Introduction

I have gone on many train journeys with my family as well as friends. Travelling by train is comfortable and enjoyable. I always prefer train journeys over road trips for the experience they offer. I have made great memories on these trips. While I have enjoyed all my train journeys, my train travel from Delhi to Goa is the closest to my heart.

Journey from Delhi to Goa

I went for a trip to Goa with my classmates when I was in seventh standard. The trip was planned by the school. After much persuasion, my parents agreed to send me on the trip. Most of my friends also got the consent from their parents. We planned to do a lot of fun things on the trip.

Besides, site-seeing and having fun with friends on the trip, I was also excited about the train journey. The train journey from Delhi to Goa was for around one and a half day. This was the longest journey I had ever gone on. I was really looking forward to it.

My parents dropped me to the station. They were a bit anxious as this was the first time I was travelling so far without them. My mother gave me last minute instructions and I nodded obediently as I eagerly awaited the train. We left from Delhi at around 5 in the evening. I sat by the window with one of my friends by my side.

Travelling with Friends

Travelling with friends is always fun. I had been to Jaipur, Nanital and Shimla with my friends. All these trips were planned by our school. We travelled by train on all these trips and had a lot of fun on the way but none of them involved so much travelling. Most of these were overnight journeys. But on our trip to Goa we spent one night and one and a half day in the train.

I kept sitting by the window for the first two-three hours of the journey. I loved the view outside. As it started getting dark, I joined my friends who were playing dumb charades. We kept playing this game until it was time for dinner. After having our dinner, we chatted until late night. We shared our experiences, narrated interesting stories and mimicked our teachers. It was all great fun. I slept comfortably at night and woke up late.

The breakfast was served almost immediately after I woke up. After having the breakfast, I went and stood by the train door which was half opened. The view outside was beautiful. I love nature and I can watch the trees, hills and the water bodies for hours. It soothes and pleases my senses and offers a delightful experience.

I kept standing there for a long time. One of my friends joined me there. We enjoyed the view and spoke about our love for travelling and nature. During the rest of the day, we played games, had food and chatted with each other. We reached Goa at around 11 at night.

This train journey was an awesome experience. I enjoyed it thoroughly and made several beautiful memories on the way.

Overnight journey by train is thus much more convenient compared to that by car or bus. One can sleep comfortably through the night and wake up fresh.
  • There is no restriction on the luggage. One can carry as much luggage as he wants while travelling via train unlike the aeroplanes where a limit is set for the same.
  • Trains have washrooms that make long journeys more convenient.
  • One can study or work comfortably on a laptop during train journey. Thus, the time spent in travelling can be put to productive use.

Disadvantages of Journey by Train

While train journeys offer a number of advantages, there are certain disadvantages attached to them too. Here is a look at these disadvantages:

  • One of the biggest disadvantages of travelling by train is that one needs to plan the trip and get the tickets booked days before the journey. This is quite unlike travelling by car or bus wherein one can plan the trip and get going even the next day.
  • Booking the ticket can be quite taxing. People who go to the railway station to book the tickets need to stand in the queue for hours. Booking train tickets online is also quite time consuming as the railway booking site sometimes get quite slow due to increased traffic.
  • Though the trains have washrooms and restrooms, these are not as clean and hygienic as they should be.
  • Trains often get delayed due to different reasons. This can be quite annoying and exhausting.
  • Compared to aeroplanes, travel time taken by trains is much higher. It is not a good option for those who need to reach somewhere urgently.

My Train Journey Experience

I have been on many train journeys since my childhood. I have gone to Mount Abu, Udaipur, Varanasi, Shimla, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Bombay and many other places with family, friends and relatives. I have travelled to most of these places by train. What I love most about train journeys is the view outside. I love to sit by the window and watch the natural surroundings that come by during the journey. I often take a novel along as I love reading while travelling.

Train journeys become all the more fun when we are travelling in groups. There are so many fun things to do on the way. We crack jokes, sing songs, play games and chit chat for hours during the journey. We also get a chance to meet new people. It feels great when we meet like-minded people on our way. It makes the trip quite enjoyable. There is so much to talk about and share. I have made quite a few friends during my train journeys.

Train journeys have their set of advantages and disadvantages. Train Journey

By judith wright, train journey quotes and analysis.

Glassed with cold sleep and dazzled by the moon, out of the confused hammering dark of the train "Train Journey" Lines 1-2

The opening lines of the poem establish the setting as a train traveling through a moonlit landscape. The speaker's state of consciousness is ambiguous; though she is "Glassed with cold sleep," she is still aware of her surroundings. The word "glassed" suggests a barrier that somehow separates the speaker from the landscape, and yet the speaker is still able to connect to the landscape via her senses and thoughts. To be "dazzled" by something indicates an admiration that inhibits one's senses, further contributing to the poem's dreamlike and surreal atmosphere. The "confused hammering dark of the train" could indicate the speaker's own internal state and the way in which she longs to commune with the nature outside the train.

Clench down your strength, box-tree and ironbark. Break with your violent root the virgin rock. Draw from the flying dark its breath of dew till the unliving come to life in you. "Train Journey" Lines 9-12

The first two lines in this section are widely understood as examples of gendered violence. In this reading, the speaker urges the trees to embody a masculine strength. The violent roots have a phallic quality to them, and the "virgin rock" belongs to the body of the personified land, (earlier established as a woman). In the next lines, however, it seems that the speaker is acknowledging the necessity of violence to ensure survival in this harsh landscape. In order for the trees to live, they must act forcefully in this dry and difficult environment. If the trees insist upon their growth by breaking the hardened ground, then they will be able to create life in the barren landscape. The mention of breath and dew contrasts with the dryness and harshness outlined earlier. This suggests hope for the trees not just to survive, but to thrive.

I woke and saw the dark small trees that burn suddenly into flowers more lovely that the white moon. "Train Journey" Lines 15-16

Though the speaker apparently awakens in these last lines, this final image is the most surreal in the poem. All the prior descriptions of the landscape and the trees are differentiated by the fact that the speaker was more asleep than awake. Despite the fact that the trees are dark and small (suggesting their fragility), the speaker witnesses a transformation that imparts a profound sense of beauty and mystery. The speaker's relationship to the landscape, first characterized by concern, shifts to one of appreciation.

Main Highlight of a Railway Station

The main highlight has to be when the train is arriving at the railway station. You will see people getting excited and waiting impatiently to board the train. They stand at the platform while waiting for the train to arrive.

On the other hand, the ones who have to deboard the train are eagerly standing at the gates of the train to get down quickly. There is a lot of commotion at this time as the ones who have to board and others who have to deboard, both do it at the same time.
